View Full Version : Walking paradox

The majority of my life has been spent in contemplation of what the hell purpose does my life on this earth serve. I spent the majority of my childhood as a baptist. Then the craft called to me and I answered, began studying, found books and teachers, friends and familiars, all more than willing to help me find myself, to find my energy. Before I new it, I was experianced enough to teach others, had my share of scares and scaring others. Then at what I thought was steadily mounting to the apex of my occult career I met someone. Someone distinctly not a pagan, but an athiest. I saw this as an oppurtunity to bring her under my wing. We fell in love and one day I woke up and left the craft cold turkey. Never to touch it again until recently. I joined the army when she became pregnant, to start a future for us; in the process I started a life trend for myself once again. I found God, or should say God found me. Now I am a practicing christian and am more happier with my spiritual life than ever. But with this new lifestyle comes the paradox. The old energy has returned to me, the old voices that called to me before, and now I find the ability to draw off of Gods devine energy, and perfect love in the practice. I feel refreshed and stronger than ever, but with this blessing there is a guilt, that I practice magick as a cristian, am I wrong, is it a sin? Or Have I stumbled on to something that has been broken for hundreds of years, since Soloman? I would appreciate any input any of you can give. Blessed Be-Jack

Hi jack! Welocme to MW and congrats on the baby to be:)
IMO only, all Gods are one God. If you feel the magic and energy while worshipping a Christian God and it feels ok to you, then it do it. There are a few Christian Witches here that are able to make it work well for them. I know there are some threads on the topic if you serach for them, I don't want to bump them up for fear of what may be unleashed again! :blushake: Just kidding, but they did get umm, kind of nasty at some points. But do a search, and you'll find them :)
Good luck!

Join the crew......there's really nothing much that's new under this Sun and there's really no experience that's new, except to our 'selves'. A lot of us consider that if Jesus DID walk the earth, he was indeed a magical dude......and I'll bet that you are as well.

Welcome! I think what you're feeling is pretty normal; all of us have conflicts within our own personal beliefs. Hope you find what you're looking for!

Christianity is famous for having god talk to people, I'm sure that an all powerful benevolent being would say something if you wer being really bad right? Yes the Bible has some things in it against magic, but it was written by men right??
Good ta meet yah, glad ta have yah!

I think God is alright with using magick. :)
I'm not really Christian - I have far-flung beliefs. But I was raised mostly christian, at at one point in time I was pretty adamant about my beliefs! (:blushake: ten year old bible-thumper, I was. . .)
I think that what God wants most is for you to be happy, and for you to be a 'good' person. To be true to yourself :) soo. . . I would say it is completely alright. I don't think the bible is exactly the most clear, firm message, so far as about witchcraft and such - it says (in some translations) something akin to "do not suffer a witch to live". . . but. . . doesn't it also say "thou shalt not kill"? Then again, it also says some interesting things like how if your son disobeys you, you should put him to death. I'm wondering if this applies to daughters, too. Because if it does. . . I'm screwed! :p
You can be a good Christian, and not nessicarily strictly follow the bible. That's my two cents, anyway :D if you're happy, and God's happy. . . well then I think those unhappy people screaming about how gays and witches and everything else "un-normal" under the sun should be put to death or saved. . . *shakes head* they aren't happy, and I doubt Jesus would've let them treat others like that. Pretty cruel. So. . . . follow your heart. I'm sure God loves ya either way, so long as you're true to yourself. :)

Jack, I was raised in a Catholic house, slightly different then Christian, but in the same league, so to speak.
My Great Aunt was a Catholic witch, and she often said to me, that God said to accept all beings as you would your own, for they are all his children. And no matter what they practice, as long as they have faith in him, and always remember that he loves them, nothing they do shall be wrong.
THen she'd always grin and say "with in reason anyways, if you go and axe a whole bunch of people, he's gonna be miffed."
I am not Catholic, I am far from it, but, I have quite a few friends who are Christian and Catholic as well. You aren't doing anything wrong, or sinful.

Welcome, Jack!
Your confusion is understandable; as the Bible can be (and has been) interpreted in so many ways. If a person were to try and follow it to the letter, they'd spend most of their time spinning in circles. Not that I disrespect the Bible; I don't. There is much wisdom and learning in it; but the fact that it was written so very long ago makes it difficult to adapt to this 'modern' age we live in.
So, very simply, follow your heart, Jack. And it will all come together in you. We live in such difficult times, that if a person can find some peace-of-mind in their beliefs, then I really don't think their God/s or Goddess/es will punish them for it.

I think I can help you. My own path led thus: started with Jane Roberts and Ruth Montgomery as a teen-ager; graduated to Hinduism and Zen Meditation in my early twenties, then into the Craft in my later twenties; I was about thirty when I discovered Gnostic Christianity, and realized how the later four paths compliment one another perfectly. I never left one for another, I Incorporated them. I highly recommend:
The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels
"We aware that at this time
many of you have a feeling of rootlessness,
and we encourage you to know
that the Creator is Everywhere
that your footing need not be recognizable
your safety and security are never in question
You will live, and you will surely die,
but that which is You will bloom anew
and your radiance of being
will grow evermore bright.
We who are your humble brothers send you our love.
May you rest in the love and the light of the infinite Creator."

No sweat SpiritualLumberjack, there are many in my ancestral family that practice folk magic while following the Christian path. He is just one of the many dieties out there. Any guilt you feel is probably from your Christian training and background, it will pass with time.
I have an article on my site about practicing more than one belief at the same time http://www.bluecatsden.com/syncretism_html.htm as well as other articles you may find interesting, including a statement of my beliefs http://www.bluecatsden.com/Beliefs.html . I mention these because sometimes it is helpful to actually put your statement into words.
Be well.

I personaly don't see anything wrong with practicing magick while being Christian. No offence or nothing but I think Christ might have been something along that lines. no matter what path you follow, be true to yourself, and respect others. Don't be like some Christian witches and try to use ur magick to controle others, or to convert people to your way. I heard of a fellow witch being magickaly bound by Christian witches for something she never did. "And ye harm none, do as ye will"
Blessed be

Some people might think I'm crazy, but I think crazyness is good in religion. I guess that's what comes of growing up worshiping in Berkeley. ;)
