View Full Version : A reading, please? I'm terribly mixed up.

Okay, we can do this either here or over PM, it doesn't really matter to me.

But anyway, here is my issue:

I've wanted to act for a very long time now, but now matter what I do, something always manages to get in the way. I did manage to get a job on the set of an Independent Film, so I am making some progress, but not as an actor. I really am grateful for the job, though; I work as a Costume/Prop person, and have got to meet several awesome people. The director/writer/producer of the film does have some professional contacts, but I'm not really sure if I want to jump write into acting professionally, or start out slow with writing/directing/producing my own Independent films. I'm drawn heavily to both, so any advice on this would be appreciated. The way I plan to get the money for funding would be to write and sell a screenplay during the year that I am putting in for the Independent Film.

While I am pleased to be working on this really great film, I'm wondering what would be the best way to get into professional acting, and how to overcome the main obstacles (money, lack of resources, poor self-image, etc.)

Feel free to PM me if I need to add in anymore details.

Thank you!

That is a whole lot of different questions. I'll work on breaking it down into manageable increments & get back to you. :)

Very sorry about that. As I said, I'm pretty mixed up. XD

I'll be happy to provide any assistance if you need it. Thank you very much for helping me in spite of my incoherent blabbering. =D

I would think the best way to overcome lack of money is to work.

Lack of resources, probably the same thing, unless you mean contacts, in which case those can be found & nurtured by joining acting classes, groups, etc.

Poor self-image, we all struggle with that... not sure if it is something you can work on with a therapist, but a few successes in your life will certainly help.

Working with an agent can probably help you with all of these things.

So, I guess your real question is: "Should I put my efforts into acting or into writing a screenplay?"

If that is the real question, then we can certainly do a reading for those 2 options. If I'm mis-reading your post, please let me know. :)
