Aiolos is a minor god known to the Greeks as "The King of the Winds".

He lived on Aioloia, a hollow floating island in which He kept the winds entrapped. Aiolos could release these winds at will, to wreak havoc on helpless Mediterranean sailors or, as in the case of Odysseus, to help them.
however much confusion reigns over this name, as no less than three different Aiolos' appear in Greek mythology. the Aeolos we are concerned with here was also known to the Greeks as 'Hippotades', or "reigner of horses", as the winds we stylized as horses in Greek myth.
