View Full Version : Conjunctivitis!

I either have a case of viral, or allergic Conjunctivitis. It's not bacterial, because it doesn't have the heavy discharge which comes with bacterial. I've tried over the counter allergy eye drops, tea bags on my eyes, cold water flushes, etc..and none of it seems to be working too well. It clears up for a few hours in the day, and then comes back.
Eyebright stings my eyes too much at this point, and I don't have any other idea's on how to calm this down! I've taken tincture of eyebright orally, to help alleviate the allergic side of it, and while it helps a little, I'm still having the itchy red eyes.
Any other homeopathic remedies that you guys can think of? I'm putting aloe around the perimeter of my eye, since the skin is so dry and red from the tears, rubbing, and wet cloths I've been using. I've heard you can use Aloe Juice as an eyewash, but isn't that a bit thick to use as an eyewash?

As much as I'm loathe to suggest this... but it may be an infection on the retina itself. If left unchecked, those sort of infections can cause scarring and affect your clarity of vision. Get yourself down to a doctor, just in case. I had a massive infection ten years ago, and was left with nasty scarring. I've been lucky, the scarring has lessened dramatically over the years, but it wasn't nice at the time!
I hope it gets better soon.. ((hugs))!!

Herbal-wise, you've done everything I could think of. I think at this point, a doctor would be a good idea. At the same time, you might want to boil your face cloths. It might be that you're re-infecting your eyes.

Well..it seems to be doing much better. I do think it is allergies, though, because on the warm days, it seems much worse, and on the rainy days we've had this week, it doesn't seem so bad. It also is worst in the mornings, and at night. But during the afternoon, it's not bad. Pollen counts are highest in the mornings, and evenings, especially on warm days. So that's why I think it's allergic. I've been resting with cloths on my eyes at night, and it seems to be getting better.

Go to the Doctor...please stop self doctoring and see a professional. The change in the quality of light effecting it, time of day etc is also symptoms of other concerns. If you have a corneal infection or other concerns they need to be diagnoised...by a doctor please.

I have to agree with materra! You only have two eyes and they can't be replaced! See a Dr.
For plain old itchy eyes, my Mom always used cucmber slices.
She claimed it wasen't just for dark circles under your eyes.
She said there's an enzyme that relieves itching.
I'll have to believe her, when my allergies are bad, it helps.
Of course it could be their just cold;)
I hope your better soon!
