What do you guys think about Ralph Nader and the Green Party. I like what he has to say and was impressed with how he did in the presidential election in november.

He would definitely be the best choice for President in 2004. :)

Just an interesting point: did you know that he does not own a car? I saw him in an interview and he told the reporter that he doesn't own a car. He uses public transportation.

Who would be a better president than someone who has done so much for consumer rights.

I voted for him last election, and after careful consideration, became a member of the Green Party.

Is the green party the same in canada as it is here?

I saw that Richard... Then again, I think that Ralph Nader is a better cannidate all around. After talking about the issues with my mother and father in-law, I pointed them towards some pages that compared the presidential cannidates, and they voted Nader as well. In fact, I went to NYC the weekend before the elections, and you saw very minimal Gore or Bush stuff, but Nader was everywhere!

To find the Green Party worldwide see: HTTP://WWW.GREENS.ORG/
To find U.S. local Green Parties see: http://www.green-party.org/
To read the 'Ten Key Values' of the Green Party see: http://www.azgp.org/greenvision.asp
Key Values(quick list):
(1) Ecological Wisdom
(2) Social Justice
(3) Grassroots Democracy
(4) Non-Violence
(5) Decentralization
(6) Community-based Economics
(7) Egalitarian Values
(8) Respect for Diversity
(9) Personal & Global Responsibility
(10) Future Focus
I am registered to vote as a Green Party member. When you declare yourself as a Green Party member on your voter's registration it helps count towards keeping the Green Party listed on the ballot without gathering signatures for every candidate in every election (our state requires 10,000 registered as Green to keep automatic ballot access, some states require more or less).
I campaigned for Ralph and will do so again, if we are lucky enough to have him run in 2004.

It looks like the B.C. Green Party will make a strong
opposition after the May 16th election, and they will
push to have "gender identity" added to the B.C. Human
Rights Code, to give the transsexual community full legal
protection.
It is still legal for people to deny us housing, education(Robin
was forced out of college 3 times), employment, and access
to public areas...theaters, etc.........
Does the U.S. Green Party plan to propose legislation to
protect transsexuals in America?

Family, friends, country left behind to escape persecution.
Transsexual fled Turkey to escape military service.

This is what transsexuals have to face and try to deal with
around the world.

Nader's position from website http://www.votenader.org/html/issues/equalprotection.html:
Gay and Lesbian Issues
"I think homosexuals have the right of civil union. There are economic reasons for that and there are humanitarian reasons for that, and I think the Vermont decision is a
good one, and I think homosexuals should be given equal rights and equal
responsibilities." Meet the Press

Nader's response to the Vermont Supreme Court Decision legalizing same-sex
partnerships: "It was a right, a humane and touching decision with a very searching
rationale -- it is not only a matter of affinity, but of economics on health care and other
issues, which makes it all the more needed." POZ Magazine May 2000

Green Party Platform from website http://www.gp.org/platform/gpp2000.html#rights :
2. We, as Greens, are committed to establishing relationships that honor diversity; that support the self-definition and SELF-DETERMINATION of all people; and that consciously confront the barriers of racism, sexism, homophobia, class oppression, ageism, and the many ways our culture separates us from working together to define and solve our common problems.

3. We affirm the right to openly embrace SEXUAL ORIENTATION in the intimate choice of who we love.

4. We support the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered people in housing, jobs, civil marriage and benefits, child custody – and in all areas of life, the right to be treated equally with all other people.

5. We affirm the right to worship or not to worship as each one chooses.

6. We support affirmative action to remedy discrimination, to protect constitutional rights and to provide equal opportunity under the law.

7. The Green Party abhors punitive discrimination in any form, and thus condemns the practice of those law enforcement agencies in the country which are guilty of discriminatory “racial profiling,” stopping motorists, harassing individuals, or using unwarranted violence against suspects with no other justification than race or ethnic background.

Mystique,

It is so unbelievable that transsexuals are denied the rights you mentioned! I feel very naive right now b/c I had no idea that there were such legalities. It's very sad that people cannot just live and let live! :(
