Try baking this cake for a class party.


Erupting Volcano Cake

~Bake your favorite cake in an overproof bowl, then hollow a well in the top
for the lava!~

1 small, short juice glass to fit in the well with the top even or below the
top of the cake
1 small box of Jell-O
1 small bottle of lemon juice
1 Tbsp of bicarbonate of soda

Make Jell-O according to package directions. Let cool 15 minutes. Fill juice
glass 1/2 full with the warm Jell-O. (Not hot). Pour in enough lemon juice
so that it is 1/2" from the top. Place the glass down in the well on top of
the cake. Place the cake on a table and when everyone is ready, put 1 Tbsp
bicarbonate of soda onto the glass and briefly stir. Jell-O lava will
immediately pour our the top of the glass and flow down the sides of the
cake.

whoa! That sounds cool! It would probably be a good idea to do this outside or put plastic down on the table if inside? Bet it is messy!

My daughters school won't let us bring anything "home-made"
for class parties! It has to come in the original store package!

Yeah, the school that I work at won't parents bring anything homemade either. At first, I was in disgust; however, I understand the arguments. Schools are now really against class periods and snacks in the classrooms, since they usually aren't healthy snacks and cut instructional time. You can always use this fun recipe for children's parties. :)

My son's class last year wasn't allowed to hand out any candy in goody bags at the Halloween party. Our county had several "scares" of Middle Eastern men buying up tons of candy and everyone assumed they were out to poison it. *shakes head*

I think if you were to make it for a class party where your kid is involved, How evil do they think you are? Are you seriously going to risk your kid eating something bad?

I can understand the nutritional issues though. I always send in something healthy (fruit) as well as something junky (cookies or a few cheese doodles or whatever).
