...fifty knots, or thereabouts
There's whitecaps on the ocean
And I'm watching for water spouts
It's time to close the shutters
It's time to go inside
In a week I'll be in gay Paris
And that's quite a long airplane ride

Jimmy Buffett, Trying to Reason With Hurricane Season.

Isadore is knock, knock, knocking on my door. We have battened down the hatches, stocked up on batteries, water, and booze. Guns are loaded and swords are sharpened. With any luck, I'll get a day off from work. The main trial is convincing my daughter that we have not yet been sentenced to death and that as long as you have reasonable shelter tropical storms aren't that bad. In fact, they can put on quite an impressive show. My home has survived hurricanes, tropical storms, floods, and the Yankee invasion. We'll survive this. If you don't hear from me for a few days (and I know you've been losing sleep over that prospect :)), it's just because the power hasn't been restored. Lack of air conditioning on the Gulf coast really sucks. But other than that, it's not so bad. Unless, of course, you live in a trailer... Fortunately, I do not.

Catch ya'll on the flip side...

Well, crap! The damn storm missed us entirely! Well, we did get the western end of it, a bit of wind and rain but nothing to get excited about. No disaster. No flooding. Not even a day off from work *sniffle*

I find I'm feeling the way I did on January 1, 2000 when I woke up to discover that Y2K had not happened. Sort of like Santa Clause passing me by. After all the hype, no armageddon, no break down of society. Not even a crummy little power outage. I was so looking forward to never going to work again and defending my family and our lands from marauding hordes :) Life is so unfair *spoken in woeful, Jeremy Irons-type voice*
