Thanks ya'll!
We got back late last night.
Hubby really had to work hard this year.
I think this was the most sucessfull PowWow they've had in while.
Lots of spectators. And enough dancers to make it good. Most of the vendors had the most beautiful things for sale - as always.
Overall the trip went well and I saw some of my in-laws.
Tired and Glad to be Home!

I was reading on your post that you went to a Pow Wow.....

I have a dear Potawatimee Friend and when I attend Pow Wows with her in Oklahoma, I never mention I am a Witch. (She has mentioned some of the older Members think of Witches as being of the darkside and might bring bad luck)

When you are around Native Americans...if you are Native this questions even gets better... do you down play your Witchness?

I myself practice the Old Way and have most of my life....when I wasn't running from it in the old days... I also try to put as many beliefs together such as intermixing Native Culture and Middle Eastern Culture to live a whole and rewarding life...not just stuck in one area....

Got windy there......ok anytime I have been invited to a Native American gathering if the person inviting knows that I am a Witch I am many times ask to "not mention it"....yes I am an older person so my friends tend to be older....is this just a belief among the older people?...

This is not getting to what I want to know........the wind blows and nothing is said....

OK....How do you mix your Witch beliefs with your Native American beliefs....? Wheew that took awhile.

Thanks Chryssi - I'm hoping to rest tonight. But that'll only happen if sis-in-law calls soon. She just called from work - which she's not supposed to do - and said, "I need your help" and gave me a short explanation, then said she'd call back in 10 minutes. Have I heard back yet - NO - and it's been about 45 minutes.

Old Witch, I'll start a new thread to tell ya'll about it.

And Crone, to answer your question....let me make it a little more complicated for ya....throw in a good dose of Christianty in there and see what kinda twist you come up with!
You see, I believe myself to be a Christian Witch and it's a long story.
My in-laws are Native American (Creek/Seminole).
My Dad is a minister.
My mama-in-law is the one credit to introducing me to my spiritual path.
I don't mention my being any sort of Witch to anyone other than my family....except my folks....and I expect my youngest to spill the beans at any time.
My in-laws don't see Witchcraft as "DARK", but I can't speak for any other Native people. There are as many different spiritual beliefs among the Native people as there are tribes and I'm sure indivually as well.
How do I mix it? Well I feel that the person that I call God is a multi-faced person. I like to call Him my Higher Power. And since I believe he has many faces, that is how I explain all the different stero-types in the world because I was taught the Human Race was made in his image. All the different sides to my Higher Power explains the different races, the sexes, and the many different paths there are. I believe that the Higher Power empowered nature with many gifts and those gifts are there for us to use if have faith and just ask.
Many of the ways of the Native people that I know intermingle with the way I practice my craft....or did I pattern my craft after them?
I was speaking with one dancer and she had two medicine bags hanging from her breastplate. Her husband said they were to keep away jelousy. Does that sound familar to you?
My in-laws are Christian but also believe in spirts, and the spirt world. So maybe they see me as a Medicine Woman more than a Witch. Does it really matter? In my opinon NO! I know who I am and how I believe. (Even though I may not be able to explain it very well.) I hope I've answered your question and if you have any more questions just PM me and I'll try to explain further or answer more clearly.
