These were done back in 2002 when my ex and I investigated a derelict Victorian mental hospital on a regular basis. I originally had a lot more recordings but fear got the better of me and I threw them away. On this one (which has been sent off in the past to several people...someone said it was the clearest voice EVP they had heard), there is a female shrieking and laughing, and also some talking... of course, I am sure there are a myriad other things a total sceptic could put it down to, but bear in mind, my ex is highly logical and I am fairly logical in my way.
It has been analysed and the voices on it were found to not be in the human voice range. This place was out in the countryside on the Isle Of Wight here in the UK, and was derelict. Only one door into where we recorded this. We put string across and talc on the floors so we would know if anyone else entered. It was late at night. Interested on opinions, especially of those with decent speakers. You need to be in a quiet environment and be able to listen through white noise. Recorded on a minidisc recorder with boundary microphone.

Would you mind sharing more of the background? Reason for the investigation and any other findings.
I think you should have kept the other tapes. ;)
Also, have you ever tried to upload this to an evp program. A bud of mine has one. I can find out what it is called if you'd like.

Well, the Isle Of Wight is a very haunted island, and the energy there is rather unique and strong. It is where my abilities first began to really open up, and I developed an obsession for this old Victorian hospital... my ex was driving us back from somewhere one day and I saw the sign 'Whitecroft' and asked if we could go. He found that you could get in there easily as the doors had not been secured yet. And thus started 2 years of fairly regular visits, including one by a full paranormal team who I called in and who, lets say, had some issues. One member of their team went to the car and refused to come back on. One of the other mediums passed out. And the team leader himself, who had done around 200 invests, was very uneasy... I used to have a recording of him saying he had sensed something very dark near the stairs, and he sounded genuinely scared and came back to us lol.
Somewhere I do have material on this, including photos of it when it was a working lunatic asylum. It was opened in 1896. The building these were done in was not the main building, which stretched for 5 blocks. It was the private wing, also an admissions wing at some point. It was oppressive and appalling. We smelt urine there, heard a female humming (which also came out on all of the recordings I did at the time). At one point, we went there and there was an infestation of flies...this terrible buzzing throughout the building, that had not been there 2 days prior.
My ex is a highly logical man...very adverse to believing things, and he was very scared one night there... a night I refused to go in myself, the atmosphere was that terrible. He went in to fetch our recording equipment and said he heard a growl.
On another occasion, at my wishes, we went there at midnight one night, halloween I believe, and basically, before I left, I said we would not be coming back if there was not any sign someone was there. As soon as we slammed the door to the place shut, there was this tremendous racket from the upstairs floor...crashes, bangs...and there was no furniture up there or anything that could make that noise. You could hear it all the way back to his van. That scared the s**T out of me and I did stop going for a year.
The final time we recorded, or rather I recorded, I got home and played back the disc and I just couldn't listen to it all as in a very clear female voice was 'hello' and then singing...words as clear as day. I had, for weeks, been leaving 'hello' written around, and had been asking for more signs. And I got it, but sadly, I threw that recording away and never went back. I have never been anywhere like that place... it stands on leylines as well, I believe.
We did mess around a bit with equalizers and the like, to try and see what range the sounds fell into. On some recordings, there were footsteps, and male voices, as if a conversation were occurring.
Also, both my ex and I saw an apparition at the exact same time. It came from the top of a staircase, and disappeared off down a corridor, simply disappearing very quickly.
So yeah... that place forced me to believe that there is more than we can see with our physical eyes in this world. I was also 'haunted' for a time by a female from there, who shared the same name as myself, albeit spelt with a 'C'
And some of the information picked up was researched and found to be true, for example that one of the doctors committed suicide after having been found to have mistreated female patients.

Eh, it is still there. For years, various people have taken it over, planning on developing it into apartments etc, but it has yet to happen, lol. I can promise, they will have a lot of trouble if they do develop it.

The Isle of Wright is also a gorgeous island. From pics I have seen..
I had a thought. This sound fascinating. Have you ever thought of writing an article on this experience for the MW mag. I daresay, this would be a fascinatng read.

I'll listen to the clips again when it is quieter here (a bit noisy at the moment but I could still hear stuff).
Some friends of mine and I used to do a bit of investigating some years ago.....I haven't done any in years now.......and until just recently I had several of the tapes left from those. On one there was a most distinct deep growl..it was *very* scary.
Thanks for posting and sharing these...I'd love to hear more about this place. I must confess, when I read the name it sent chills all over.

The room/ward where I recorded these. I place the microphone on the top of the steps. I am the one leaning over the man.

An interesting idea. I have done a lot of investigations, a few with a medium off the television here in the Uk. But this place was a special interest of mine, to the point I even sat and read through the original minutes books and documents for patients.
And yes, the iow is beautiful. I loved it there, but the energy did get too much for me at times.

I am a medium as well, unfortunately. I say unfortunately, as when I walked round this place, a few kept asking me for help, and I had no idea how to do spirit release. It was very obvious there were spirits trapped there. And that there was a very dark energy there. I wont go into details, as it challenges my beliefs, let alone the beliefs of any sceptics on this forum lol.
This was one of my very, very early experiences with spirit. I sure threw myself in at the deep end.

My gods it is beautiful! Scary...but beautiful....I can feel the draw of it just viewing the pictures! Some *VERY* interesting stuff there (the place and in the photos too). Question: in the photograph of the hallway with 3 doors and the greenish looking flooring....is there "something" about that middle door or room?

Eh, well it looks like they finally got round to converting the place...the good thing, however, is that they appear to have left the original buildings standing and to have worked with them, rather than pulling them down... The residents will sure have some fun lol.

I hear breathing. I hear yelling and screaming. A women is crying. Sounds like a young women. She's in agony. I hear this awful whooshing growling sound and the womans screams are getting louder at the same time

OMG. I could just very faintly hear a baby crying. The woman sounds as if she were in a very difficult labor.
Are there planes that fly past there often? I keep hearing low rumbling or groaning noise that sounds very mechinical.
I also hear gurneys rolling by.
