Merry Meet!

My dilemma: I am working on a story, and I like to use symbolisms from real life and real magic(k) in my writing. However, some of my characters are not so nice, and I was hoping that someone could help me to identify what herbs could be used to curse another, and in what ways.

Before anyone lectures me, please be aware that I do not use my energies to curse others. (Karma and I are on good terms - I would like to keep it that way!) While I have spent numerous hours searching for information on-line, what I've found has been, well . . . lacking, to say the least! I do not wish to harm anyone or anything with the information provided; if anyone feels that others may misuse the knowledge that is shared here, they are more than welcome to send their tidbits of wisdom via PM. Thanks for your help!

Blessings!
~Lily

Well, the best place to ask about this type of magic is on MW Dark. It is a free forum to discuss the "Darker" side of magic. The only catch is you have to be over 18.

Cayenne pepper is traditionally used in "hot foot powder" to make people want to leave.

Sulphur powder and asafoetida are also used in "negative" magicks, because let's face it, they stink.

"Graveyard dust" is powdered mullien leaves, I think this is also used in a blend called "goofer dust".

Knot grass, poke weed, crab grass and other weeds are used to "curse". Also poisonous plants like aconite.

Ashes, soot, pins and needles, rusty nails, cobwebs.

"Bat's blood" is essentially dragon's blood darkened with indigo or soot.

Any herb of saturn or mars, and some herbs of the moon might also be used. Herbs of fire for attack, and herbs of earth to bind, as long as they're not also associated with prosperity.

I write, too.

Oh, and in case any of your characters are revolutionaries planning on overthrowing any governments, here's a site where you can download The Anarchist Cookbook for free:

The classic "Evil herbs" in the hoodoo tradition are red pepper, black pepper, vandal root, tobacco and asafoetida. It's of note that most of them have other uses in addition to causing harm (there's a sort of 'like cures like' mentality on some of them.)

Also sulfur, black salt, grave dirt, ashes, and anything black-colored or dead (dead insect are common) often are also used in harmful spells.

EDIT: Thought I should add, graveyard dust is NOT mullein. It's exactly what it sounds like -- dirt from a graveyard. Mullein is sometimes mixed into it to make goofer dust, due to its psychic properties (to enhance contact with the ghosts from the grave the dirt was taken from) but it is not a synonym.
