Not sure if this is where this goes but if not, feel free to move it. I was driving somewhere a couple of days ago and saw something I considered out of the ordinary...an owl in the daytime. I know that it's possible to see these birds anytime of the day BUT to me this was odd.
I had turned on this road out in the country ( bought some land w/ a cemetary on it and was heading there) and the owl was sitting on the speed limit sign close to the road staring at my me in my car. I stopped and it just glared at me and didn't fly away. It turned it's head all the way around! Needless to say I didn' get a good feeling about it. I've had two other encounters w/ owls and both times someone close to me died within a week. These other times it was at night when I had an encounter w/ the bird but now that it's in the daytime~ well I'm really freaked! I've always believed in omens and such as I've had alot of strange happenings w/ birds, lights, etc. before someone passes.
So I'm wondering~ what do you all think? Coincidence or am I about to face something terrible? I hope it's nothing bad because I really don't think I can deal w/ it right now. :(

Hmmmm....I'm not really sure.
Owls turning their heads around is not unusual. Being out during the day is more so as is not flying away.
I'm a firm believer in signs and omens as well. But I'm also a believer in accidental reinforcement. If it usually portends something bad, then I'm going to hope that it's a case of accidental reinforcement rather then something tragic going to happen to you.
In this case I would take a hope for the best but keep your eyes open approach. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

Some of the Native American tribes hold the belief that seeing an owl, especially in the daylight, is an omen of death. I haven't found that to be true for me, but it may be for someone else.
I did have an owl warn me about stormy weather once. My daughter and I were driving to her home about 9 pm on a dark and stormy night. Suddenly in the headlights I see an owl on the highway directly in front of the van. Slowly it lifted up in the air and sailed right over the top of the van. We looked at each other and I said "That's a sign of something." After talking about it and all the reports of funnels that had been spotted that evening, we decided it was warning us to keep our eyes open for more tornados. Exactly one week later, to the freaking minute, a super cell storm split in half and a very large and powerful tornado touched down right at the edge of the town where my daughter and her family were living. They ran for the basement even though the sirens did not go off because they were on "owl alert". Their house didn't take a direct hit but it took some shaking and twisting and some damage, and they were all scared stiff, but they were safe.

Interesting. Two weekends ago, I also saw an owl in daylight.....my whole family and sister-in-laws family saw it as well. It was sitting in our maple tree out front of my house. It sat there for a good 15 minutes while we watched with intrigue as you don't usually get a chance to see an owl that close up in the daylight. It was a great horned owl. The crows didn't like him at all and were pestering him...though, he simply ignored them. When he finally flew away it was quite grand.
Lunacie is right in that there is Native American myths associated with the owl and death. The term, "I heard the owl call my name." comes to mind for me.....though, I've never experienced that.
I wouldn't read too much into it. I think this time of year there are more instances of seeing owls in the daylight....it's cooler and the days are getting shorter.

Well an Owl is often no more a symbol that you or a loved one will die then is a tarot card of death.
Instead what are you letting go of that no longer serves you? It is a sign of things getting brighter and lighter - moving forward to a new place and a new you.
Of course as a totem they also can teach you how to slip from here to there and back again - to often not even be seen.
Perhaps other traditions offer other advice though.
Personally I would love to hear more about this property you have purchased, it sounds most wonderful!

Thank you all for your responses. A close friend died last night and I believe this is why I saw this owl as a warning. This is the third death after having experiences with owls so I don't believe it was just a coincidence.

I'm sorry for your loss. :hugz: And I'm sorry that Owl brings you such sad tidings. I love owls and am glad that I don't get that message from Owl myself.

No need to fear owls, unless you're a small rodent scurrying about at night. :)
So, are you a small rodent scurrying around at night?
edit: wrong 'your'....

Well I would like to think it's nothing but a coincidence but with this being the THIRD time and then it's preceeded by a death, well that's kind of hard for me to think otherwise. Also my aunt had a similar experience and within three days her best friend was killed.

Perhaps your family has an owl spirit rather than a banshee.

I've never really thought of that but it's definitely something to think about. :uhhuhuh:

Owls are just the "messangers " nothing more. It is there duty to inform you of a death, nothing more.

This is my thoughts exactly as it has been proven to be true quite a few times in the past as with this time as well. A very close friend of the family died ten days after posting this thread.:(

My husband and I have had the same experiences as you when it comes to seeing owls. The size and the type of encounter seem to correlate with how close the person is to us.
We actually had a Native American friend who told us of "the night spirit" or "dark spirit" We saw our first daytime owl in the middle of a park in Indianapolis less than a week before he passed on unexpectedly. It was then that we became believers of his stories and have since experienced four seperate owl sightings that correlated with deaths.

My parents say that when they brought me home from the hospital just after I was born, they discovered a host of Crows/Ravens chilling on the roof. Enough of them were there that they were convinced the roof was completely covered. Much to their further dismay, they discovered snakes by the bucket full under the extended front porch as well. All of this was unsettling to them, and my Grandpa was never quite convinced I wasn't the Antichrist before he died.
Omens? Who knows. I just wish they had pictures of it all with me in a crib in the middle!
