Can someone please tell us what kind of spider this is? The body is about the size of a large gumball, and it's colors are much more intense than the pic shows. And it's aggressive!

put it in a jar or take the pic to the nearest college and ask where the bug department or biology department is they should be able to help you. As a matter of fact you should be able to email a college and find out.

I don't know what kind it is, but it looks like it may be a female ready to lay eggs.

sorry, cant resist. Its a "Notouchieme" spider. Very rare!

are you curious or nervous about it? I seem to attract a lot of
spiders. I guess cause I rarely kill them, and it freaks out my
friends, who said I had the most wolf and brown recluse spiders
they had ever seen.

That settles it I am never going near Flar7 for any reason I am terrified of spiders I would be scared to have one pop out near me!

I was very concerned about how the two spiders outside my window at work would fair during the high winds Friday. Course they're just garden spiders. Got a couple in my herb garden too.

big ones are very handy on a porch, they cut down of flying bugs.
as do the local bats. but the bats cant really navigate my porch.

That's weird. Sister-in-Law, Hubby and I were just talking about bats today. Our conversation was about them eating "skeeters".

Yeah, it's most definatly a "Notouchieme" spider, and very rare because know one I've talked to has ever seen one like it!
Personally, I'm curious, but my neighbors are freaking over it. It's habitat seemed to be their yard swing.... Until my neighbor poked at it's web and it jumped on the stick! Last seen, it was heading for the woods behind the houses.... And I think it was growling! :p I'm going to send the picture around to a few places to find out what it is. Thanks all!

I think so, too! It's actually 'quite a looker' for a spider.
But we'd really like to now what kind it is. I know that in some cases, the brighter colored reptiles are poisonous; I wonder if it is the same in arachnids...
And I'll let you all know what I find out....

Wouldn't worry too much about it being fatal......only two spiders in US that are fatal are Black Widows and the Brown Recluse............ Of course thats not to say an exotic has managed to breed...............:D

Lady Tana
October 8th, 2002, 05:58 PM
OW... the black widow? is that fatal to everyone or just someones?

lol just wondering cuz i have been bitten twice by black widows...

NEVER by the brown recluse though... those are quite ugly unlike those perty black and red widows that i obviously love :heartthro

We have lots of different spiders in Australia... and that spider sort of looks like a Golden Orb Weaver or a similar type (there are many Orb Weavers and all look similar).. But I think they are only in Australia...

AAAAHHHHHHH You're getting attacked by us Aussies!!!

I'm in West-central Illinois; in a small town surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Our back yard is quite large and open, there is a small wooded area behind the yard, and open water behind the woods. Does that help?

earthcat
October 8th, 2002, 10:41 PM
Annyka, it looked somewhat similar to the first one with red legs, but it's body was definately bright yellow with dark brown markings.
Thanks for checking....
I like Aussies!!!!:D

Savian, I went to that sight, but it wouldn't let me attach the picture. I'll go back later and try to figure out a different way to do it. Thanks for finding it!
I clicked around a bit and found some pictures of some very cute and cuddly scorpions... heeheehee...

I started to explain about Black Widows, now I wish I had..........A Black Widow alone......... meaning one single bite........probably won't kill you.......... but Black Widows have nests and thats how they kill......... A lot of them bite you and you dead.........:( Spiders love me, I'm all the time getting bit by them.........My Dr. says I'm a magnet for Spiders......I've been pretty sick from bites before...............

I've seen that kind of spider before, but I can't for the life of me remember where, or what the name of it was....

Try emailing Oregon State University, they might have the name, and I think that's were I saw the thing.

It is a cool looking spider, but I don't think I'd want to meet it in a dark alley when it was hungry... ;)
