Hi, I'm fairly new to this board, and am still feeling my way around. I was a fanatical Wiccan, when I first discovered the religion :o, and then abruptly left it, I think because I wore my enthusiasm out completely. Now I've come back, and I'm not so fanatical, for one thing, I can now actually take a joke aimed at magic or other stuff like that 8O.

Anyway, onto the subject of the post. I've been studying Astral Travel and Projection for quite some time. I have tried it, perhaps, ten times. Three of these times, I'm sure I came fairly close to having one. The first time, I was laying in bad, fairly new to this sort of stuff, and so my mind was wandering a lot, and so on. Then, a great sense of peace came over me, and I just melded into it, I must comment, this was by far my most amazing experience, in the terms of magick. I never really believed the theories on body energy and such, pretty much because I'm a person who likes his science, the idea that what I had believed for so long could be wrong was nothing if not disturbing. Still, I felt a strange...sense, when I talked of magick matters and such with friends.

Anyway, everything became peaceful and went quiet. My body became strangely rigid, which shocked me somewhat, however, I concentrated on the peacefulness of the scene. Then, I felt a vibration, stirring deep within my body, it became stronger and stronger, and my thoughts were composed of enthusiastic 'I'm doing it!' sentences. Then, my heart began racing, my breathing quickened, and I felt as though something was wrapped around my chest, making it hard to breath.

I forgot to mention, before the vibrations came, I experienced a great sense of vertigo, the same as when a car goes over a hill, and your stomach drops, however, this was stronger, and it was mainly with my hands, feet and head.

Then, everything receded, and I was left feeling strangely empty.

I have come to believe that my racing heart was actually my heart chakra opening fully for the first time, because of what I have learned since, and my shortness of breath because of my solar plexus chakra opening.

My other two near OBE's happened much the same, without nearly as much gusto as the first, I believe, because I was rather enthusiastic, and managed to cram far more than three OBE attempts into the same day, wearing myself out mentally, physically, and spiritually, however, it taught me an important lesson. The effect the spirit can have on the body, I now know that I CAN dangerously wear myself out.

But, I did not post this message to recount my experiences, even though it has felt good telling somone besides disbelieving family members. I was wondering, how many of you have had full blown OBE's and what were your preperation stages. I've got a fairly simple one, go into a deep meditation state (for some reason, I'm fairly good at this, and can reach one in under 5 minutes), and then just sit and try not to reflect, all the while, trying with my willpower to make my spirit leave, I did it like that on my first almost successful attempt, though, on the second, I imagined my bed turning upside down, and me almost falling out. I was wondering, am I going about it the right way, how can I improve my technique and so on.

Also, I have researched magick quite a lot, because, as most people, the idea fascinated me. I have done some slight spells, nothing big as of yet, but still, the results more than disappointed me, as nothing has yet come of them (having being cast more than a few months ago). Is magick, such as energy magick, possible. I have heard of people making invisible energy balls, and being able to move, and in some cases smash objects using them. I might sound naive in even half believing them, but I was wondering IS it possible?

Finally, the subject of psychics. As many, I have had my fair share of psychic messages, from knowing who is on the phone before I pick it up, to having a strange premonition, just before my brother plummeted more than 10 metres, almost to his death.

I was wondering, how many of you have developed advanced psychic abilities, such as being able to bring on telepathy, and such, when YOU want it to happen. I'm extremely interested in this field, and I wonder, if like your muscles, you can exercise and strengthen your natural psychic abilities.

Well, now that I've made pretty much the biggest post of my life (though, it won't look nearly as big on the board) I'm going to stop, get my breath back, and wait for replies ;).

Welcome to MW :)

One exercise I've done with other people is try and guess the card the other person is holding. I'm not too good at it, but everyonce in awhile I get lucky. ^_^

I also believe that everything is possible although I've never see first hand someone that could move object with their mind. But I think its possible with lot of practice.

MM, Well I have been trying to OBE for 9 mo now with much the same results as you. I think the biggest problem I have is I keep reading books on it and coming up with new techniques to try when you really should pick one and keep at it. But then the experts say not every technique works for everyone so try new ones..Its sort of a catch 22 thing. Also some say lie down...I fall asleep. Others say sit up with spine straight but then you have to be fully relaxed to be successfull and how relaxed can you get holding your spine straight. So I usually recline back a little. Many times I still fall asleep but I have hit the vibration state and had roaring in my ears. IT is very exhillerating to say the least. I think I read that you shouldn't get excited about it..stay calm. Well I think I don't get in deep enough trance so for now I backed off a little and am working on deep trance. Then I will go back to trying again. I am trying lucid dreaming too and while I have gotten good at remembering the dreams I have not been successful at 'waking up' in one.

And as far as psychic abilities go well it is like any other talent. For some people it is frighteningly easy and others can train themselves and with work can obtain skill. Me I am like you, I have a rudimentary talent but I lack something..and I can't get it to work for me. Well I have a home, small children, a demanding husband and little time to practice. I can read and learn and study. And for the time being that is what I am doing. But to get quiet alone time to practice these things is next to impossible. One thing I do is when I do meditate I put my center of awareness at my third eye and hold it there. I try to SEE out of it. There are times when I feel I start to see fuzzy dim images of my room. That is supposed to awaking that port which is the psychic center chakra. I have the actually name somewhere but being lazy I am not going to look it up. I plan on trying Kudalini Yoga which is supposed to help awaken you spiritually as well.

I don't talk to people about what I do. Most people just don't get it and just will think you are weird. I just think of my self as being priveleged to an ancient and private secret. It feels good to have such a secret.
Brightest Blessings,
Storm Thunderhawke

It's quite possible, qid, that you were about to OBE but got excited and thus lost the moment. As to whether they were your chakra's opening; possibly, I dunno, I don't get that when I open my chakra's up but everyone's different right? For me it's like deep inside me my chakra opens up and I can almost breathe through it or see through it.

It does take months or even years of daily practice, and there are various techniques out there (search the web, I know there are a few great sites on it). I feel a lot of it though is daily practice and perseverence rather then technique, though you might want to try a few techniques too.

Also, I have researched magick quite a lot, because, as most people, the idea fascinated me. I have done some slight spells, nothing big as of yet, but still, the results more than disappointed me, as nothing has yet come of them (having being cast more than a few months ago).

So you're proficient at meditation I gather; what about energy raising, grounding and centering, circle casting, energy manipulation and so on? What was your technique? May I ask what your spells were for too, and if you worked towards them on a mundane level, and if you wrote them yourself? Tell us a bit more about them - sometimes the magick just won't work, but sometimes there's other reasons too.

Is magick, such as energy magick, possible.

Yep. If you're not sure that's probably why your spells didn't work - spell work requires belief, so if you didn't even believe they would work, they couldn't.

I have heard of people making invisible energy balls, and being able to move, and in some cases smash objects using them. I might sound naive in even half believing them, but I was wondering IS it possible?

Yep. My friends tend to manipulate energy and share it back and forth - sharing hyper energy or throwing an energy ball at eachother or the cat (when the cat's bad), though I'm not sure about the "smashing objects" I imagine it could be done given enough concentration and ability at this.

I was wondering, how many of you have developed advanced psychic abilities, such as being able to bring on telepathy, and such, when YOU want it to happen. I'm extremely interested in this field, and I wonder, if like your muscles, you can exercise and strengthen your natural psychic abilities.

I'm not sure you can as such, other then playing the game where you guess the card, and when you ask your friend to intentionally send a message at a specified time and then you try to "tune in" to it. I know of people who can turn it on with a certain person - for instance my friends who can send a "call me!" message, or receive one. We are inextricably linked and so we can "tune in" to eachother sometimes, but often without trying - the idea is to send the message from subconscious to subconscious, and so trying to consciously learn how to do this or "tune in" can often hamper it.

For me, I don't work to develop them at all, because that brings the idea to my conscious, and then it's all rational and logical and doesn't work. Whereas if I don't think about it, my subconscious self or astral self picks up, and then it arises as a strange thought in my conscious - for instance "gee, maybe I should grab a raincoat today", then it rains. I'm always trying to think logically and rationally to a fault, as I think many are - we've been raised to think "this stuff is make believe, and this is real" and so on.

I do think learning and thinking about one's beliefs and magick are integral here - opening oneself up in this way makes it easier for messages to come through. For instance, if you imagine life in four worlds as I do (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - physical body, conscious, subconscious, intuition), I see the spiritual world as like a web of energy across the universes that we are all part of (this is how I think of deity, this web). To me, we're all on that web, and all the answers are on it, and so we have our subconscious/emotional self as a conduit between the all encompassing spiritual and our conscious mind.

So when we recognize the importance of the subconscious, and try to reach it through various means (ie. dreamwork, meditation, etc.) and let it reach out to the spiritual, it becomes more open as do we. When we believe messages come through, and know they can, they can. Whereas if we spend too much time consciously wondering or worrying, we close that subconscious part off and then we can't get the messages. I'm not sure if it's as much as technique as just letting it happen, and I try not to think of it in logical/rational terms like techniques and steps, because to me that closes the other part of my mind off.

Am I making sense to you?

Storm - if you mean the third eye chakra it's called Ajna.

Thanks for all the replies :D.

Raevyn, so, in your experience it is impossible, or next to impossible, to have psychic intuition about anything?

BTW - I have managed to control one psychic sense, or rather, had it happen once when I wanted it to.

I had meditated for about half an hour beforehand, and, having just read about telekinesis, I decided to give it a try. I didn't ground myself after the meditation, so the physical plane seemed hazy and things keep going out of focus, but I thought that being more connected with the spiritual plane might help.

So I ripped a tiny piece of paper of a blank page (about the size of my fingernail) sat down with it directly in front of me and began to concentrate.

The first thing I did was imagine a tunnel between my eyes and the piece of paper, so that I couldn't see anything but the paper.

The result was astounding, my hands started getting blurry, like Frodo Baggins when he puts on the ring, but the paper was amazingly clear. I felt all my chakras opening, and energy started shooting through me.

I put my hand over the piece of paper, concentrating on lifting it. All of a sudden it floated up to my hand, and stopped when it was nearly touching it.

At first, I thought it was a draft of air (though I had sealed the room I was in, cloth under the doorway and windows shut) and so I lowered my hand, the piece of paper followed.

Then i got excited and my concentration fell, along with the piece of paper.

However, doing this completely exhausted me, I was physically, mentally and spiritually drained. And so I didn't feel so good.

Oh and with the OBE's, I've decided to back down on them for awhile, they exhaust me, and I don't get anywhere. So I'm going to concentrate on meditation, and raising my psychic ability.

I've taken quite a lot of psychic tests, and each one says I have some rudimentary psychic skills working for me already :D yay!

Anyway, again, thanks for the replies, you all helped me a lot.

No, it's not impossible at all. Like the examples I mentioned where intuition came through. What I did mean was that in my experience it's not a matter of "exercising a muscle" with logic or exercises, because they engage my conscious mind, and that pushes the subconscious mind out. Since I consider my subconscious to be the link to the spiritual and intuition, I don't want to let conscious get in the way.

Incidentally the paper thing is called telekinesis, and falls under or is also called psychokinesis. Along with ESP, PK can be an important part of magick.

Raevyn, I already knew it was called telekinesis ;). Much of what I learned about it came from SpiritOnlince.

I believe that the conscious mind can control the subconscious mind, and therefore you can consciously use such abilities. But that's just my belief, and I'm a beginner at that, so I've got a lot to learn.

Yay you! hehe no seriously I didn't mean to act as though you couldn't figure it out, just you didn't mention it by name and my mind runs off without me sometimes ;) No offense intended!

Hm, for me (and again, not trying to talk down to you, just babbling about *my* thoughts ;)) we spend most of our lives letting our conscious control the subconscious or at least keep it down - we're taught to classify, separate, label, and be logical with that conscious mind, rather then daydream and see the astral and so on, you know? I'm the one who's always trying to be logical and it stifles; as I label I limit. JMHO, YMMV :)

When my brow chakra, the third eye, opened up, my head throbbed, my eyes became extremely bloodshot, and I had a headache for three days. This wasn't long ago.
