Has anyone read the new 17 magazine? It's the one with Justin Timberlake on the cover. There's an article on wicca. It's on page 94. It includes a few spells. I won't type the article, due to copyrights and all that.

May have to break down and buy it, then.............I don't think my son's girlfriend reads it anymore so I might feel kinda silly when the cashier wonders why this old crone is buying it :T

I have homeroom in the lib. so I can check in out on Thursday (we don't get homeroom Mon, Wed, Fri). I kinda scanned the thing before and didn't see anything, but I'll look closer next time. I've been getting YM for about a year for free (I don't know where it comes from it just shows up at the house). They had a thing about Wicca a long time ago.
Oddly enough that was one of the things that made me even more sure of how I wasn't ever going to be a Christian. 8O I really tried to scoff at the whole thing and how they were all going to Hell but try and I might I never really believed it. :D
You never know. It's one of those things where you'll probably end up with 150 stupid teens for every person who really wants to learn.
I know that YM got lots of letters, so it doesn't go unnoticed that's for sure.

I plan on buying it after perusing the info at Wally World. If nothing else.. I can have it on hand when the folks who read it and think it's cool come online and I can say "I read that, too, along with actual info" if it's really bad. ;)
And I can still pass for 17! Maybe...

Whenever anyone asks if I'm over 18, I usually say "Yep. Coupla times."
And if they card me and are male, I tell 'em I love 'em and ask 'em to marry me......
Wonder if we can talk about what KINDS of spells they put in there

:rotfl: I found some at the school library that were pretty darn old... :bug:
I have to say though, looking at the old ones is probably more entertaining that the new issues. ;)

It's actually not a half bad article...I have it sitting here in my lap right now, actually. I read it the other day with about the same attitude as most of you. "Oh goody, this is going to be an absolute piece of fluff and I'm going to have to write them and lambast them for being so stupid." But to be honest, for a 1-page article, it's pretty accurate if we're just talking about the bare-bones info and feel for Wicca as a religion. Seventeen has done features on other religions in the past, and I feel that they did Wicca as much justice as they have other religons they've reported on. The article actually stresses that the magic is not the same as they make it seem in movies and that wording is important, and that manipulation of other is bad...you know, all of the stuff that most fluffies and teenies never hear or think of.
As for the spells, one of them is a love spell, but one to simply attract someone in general...nobody specific (though as is the case with most love spells in the first place could be used for manipulation. But it's hard to find one that can't be that's relatively simple.) One is called the "Bully Freeze Spell" and essentially is what it says it is. Same goes for the third spell, which is a prosperity spell. All in all, it doesn't suck, and for all of you "old" people who think you might want to pick it up, just make the excuse that it's for your daughter or your little sister or something.

:) I read it while standing in line at Wal-Mart. Thanks for posting the page number, that made it really easy to find.
I think it's a great article in that it's short and positive regarding Wicca. I would have liked it better if they'd gone a bit more into the spiritual aspects. Without that, I'm concerned about young people dabbling in magick with no real understanding of spirituality, energy, etc. On the way home, I was wondering whether they might have included some recommended reading? I didn't notice and feel that this could have made the article better. Could someone who has the article let me know? I would like to e-mail them and commend them but don't want to include that criticism if they did include something like that.

I haven't read it yet, but maybe I'll pick it up.
Seventeen had an article on Wicca in it about 4 years ago. I still have the article. I think it was Seventeen, it might have been Teen or YM though...
