The unidentified specimen has been shipped to the University of Guelph in Ontario for DNA tests, but Ogopogo buffs will have to wait until February to find out more, when the Monster Quest program weighs in on the legendary mega-serpent.

Ogopogo, first sighted in the 1870s, is reputed to be 12 metres long with multiple humps and a small head.

The History Channel, which had a bigger budget than previous expeditions, mounted a thermal infrared imaging camera on a helicopter for the first time. It picked up an unidentified shadow on the lake, while sonar spotted something over three metres long moving in the water.

"That's pretty big for a fish," said Steciuk.

But divers made the most interesting find in an underwater cave on the west side of Rattlesnake Island.

"I couldn't recognize it," said Steciuk. "Nor could anyone else. Maybe a new species has been found."

I never understood why the History Channel is so obsessed with cryptozoology, instead of history. :hrmm:

I kinda thought that as well- If there is a reporter, there is a camera person.

The same thing happens in many science related news pieces, you hear of spectacular finds and then no pictures. I believe this is to keep speculation away and to not embarrass scientists if peer reviews prove the find wrong..

really? I think this mysterious beast that they found without pics as usual mind you is just a load of crap. i personally don't think ogopogo or the loch ness monster exist but i'd be cool if they found at the very least fossil records, awesomely freaky if they found real living monsters!

I personally have never heard of this before, so of course I googled it for pictures. I would love to know if it's real or not.

And Nazis, they are obsessed with Nazis.

I think that's pretty cool; like others, I would be interested in seeing some pics.

And Nazis, they are obsessed with Nazis.

That's so true. 90% of what is on there seems to be either Nazis, the Occult, or (more often than not) an actual combination of those two. So you have Nazi shows, occult shows, and then shows about the Nazi connection with the occult. :goodgrief:

History involves a lot more than Hitler and Big foot!

I never understood why the History Channel is so obsessed with cryptozoology, instead of history. :hrmm:

Because sometimes the study of history often always leads to discoveries of other species of animals/fish etc we were previously unaware of. In order to co-exist here on this rock er... um planet.. it is sometimes helpful to know the facts so that certain historical events can not repeat especially when it comes to things we as humans did, are doing, etc which affected the well being of these creatures..

history is a broad field so it leaves for endless programming on the history channel, and sometimes I like watching a program that is not about war and conflict, or political history... lol
