Hi, not sure if I posted this in the right area. If not, please feel free to move it, mods, and I'm sorry!
Just wondering what everyone thinks is the best way to contact the dead. I'd like to contact my mother. There are seance type things, Ouija boards, EVPs, astral projection (which I do, but don't like to do because it scares me so I tend to return to my body immediately), etc.
What is the best, safest way?

I agree with asking her too!!
Unless your experienced I wouldnt try to go seek her.
As for the dead in general, always remember not everyone hangs around. Some do move on eventually.
My grandmother was an awesome lady in life and even after passing. 2 years after she passed she came to let me know she was moving on and gave me a glimpse of some things to ease my heart in letting go. It was a wonderful gift she gave to me by coming to tell me. :)

First, I would like to clear up some misconceptions on contacting the "dead". Those with whom we have shared a loving relationship are not separated from us by physical death. Whether they died 2 years or 2 days ago, they will spend some time in the astral plane before transitioning to the light and reconnecting with their Higher Selves.
Even after a Spirit has returned to the Light, they are still able to be connected and still desire to connect to you. This is especially so if you are in true need of their assistance and support. In fact the energy of spirits that have returned to the Light feels calming, loving, revealing and peaceful. In contrast, the energy of a spirit that remains in the Astral feels much as they did when they were alive, ie without the higher elements of their divine nature.
Navigating the Spirit world and sensing the nature of different energies is a learned process. The basics of protection and healing must be known to you before you step into this activity. Your loved ones would not wish you to risk your well being in this life in order to speak to them.
I think in the first instance, consult a spiritual medium with a good reputation. This person will probably be holding classes as well, or at least can point you in the right direction.
I will also add that she is right by your side. Because you need her, she is right there beside you. Every step of the way.
Blessings be

This!!! Excellent advice. :)
Things like seances and ouiji boards are usually foofballs. In other words, not terribly accurate and probably not worth your time.
I would agree that meditation and asking her to come to you are excellent ways of trying to reach out to her.

I agree, I think simple meditation and talking to her would be best.
Also, perhaps you can ask for some sort of confirmation sign that she is in fact there, maybe something special to you two or something that reminds you of her and will let you know she's there? It could be as simple as seeing a certain animal that holds some meaning or something like that.
Hope all goes well :)

I agree with just sitting and talking to her. Even without a medium or any psychic means, she can hear you. You can also hear her, you just have to listen with more than your ears.

Thank you for all of your suggestions! Meditation seems to be a hugely popular one. What's the best means of meditation? There seem to be a lot of ways to do it -- should I just hold her in my mind and clear everything else out? Or what?
She and I projected together in life and talked about the astral plane a lot. I've also been contacted by several relatives this way, so I think I'd have the best luck with that if only projection didn't freak me out so much.
It'd be so much easier if she'd just visit ME already. Good God, I've been waiting for over a year and a half now. My great grandfather, my great aunt, another aunt, a friend's grandfather and some uncle I'd never even heard of all visited *me.* That was great and all, but my mom's taking forever :(
ETA: Hm, I wonder if she can read message boards. This would be the first place she'd check. MOM: HURRY UP

You can also try contacting your local Spiritualist church. Most of them have wonderful classes. Here is a website that may help you:

I am wondering if you and your Mum talked about any of these possibilities before she passed over?
I know that her Christian faith was very important to her; have you tried simple prayer and if so, did you feel it brought you closer to her?

if you remember our talks about astral projecting back in the day, you might try it that way but just a little differently. meditate first, send your mom the message that you want to talk to her. then visualize the key being the key to your moms door instead of just a key to a door. ill send ye a PM.

Cassie: We did talk about what we would do if she did die. She said, "Well, I guess I'll just follow you around forever." And I told her no, that she might get stuck and that it was God's Will for her to go be with Him if that would happen. I was there when she died and the room got REALLY foggy, like misty, and I believe I was watching her soul come out, but then it was gone. I completely feel like she's gone -- but not totally. It feels like she's in another room. So I really feel like she's with Him. I've wondered, too, if there are things she needs to deal with before she can be settled and see me. I know she wasn't ready to die and it would probably take her a while to come to terms with it. A year and a half might not seem like a long time where she is, I don't know. But I would like to go try and find her. Sometimes I pray to God and ask Him to pass messages along to her.
Rudas: Thank you so much for your PM and advice. Yes, that's exactly what I'd like to do. The key idea is brilliant. How do you meditate on something you'd like to do? I only know how to meditate in order to relax and clear my mind. I don't really know what else it's good for or what to do. Do I just talk to her in my mind?
