Jewelry Clay

Mix dry ingredients together. Slowly add warm water until the mixture sticks together and can be shaped.
To create bead jewelry, roll dough into small balls, pierce the balls with toothpicks, and allow to dry. Paint as desired, and allow to dry. Paint or spray painted balls with acrylic finish. Here are some recipes for some yummy cinnamon scented ornaments/clay....

Cinnamon Cut-Outs

Recipe One:

1 1/8 cup flour
3/4 cup ground cinnamon
1 cup salt
1 cup water
1 tbsp ground nutmeg (optional)
1 tbsp ground cloves (optional)

Mix dry ingredients with water to form smooth, stiff dough. Divide dough into three or four portions. Place each section between two sections of waxed paper, and roll to 1/4-3/8 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes out of dough. While dough is still soft, use a straw to make a hole near the top of each shape where ribbon can later be inserted for hanging. Bake cut shapes at 350 degrees 15-20 minutes to dry. If desired, insert ribbon in hole, tie, and hang as ornaments.

Note, I have thought about trying this recipe and making goddess shaped ornaments to hang around the house. Even pentagrams..... Hanging them in the window on a sunny day will make them scent up the whole room:D

Recipe Two:

1 cup ground cinnamon
1 tbsp ground nutmeg
1 tbsp ground cloves
2 tbsp white glue
3/4 cup applesauce

Mix cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves (if other spices are used) with glue and apple sauce to form smooth, stiff dough. Additional apple sauce may be added if needed. Divide dough into 3 or 4 portions. Place each section between two sections of waxed paper, and roll to 1/8 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters or sharp knife to cut into desired shapes. While dough is still soft, use a straw to make a hole near the top of each shape where ribbon can be inserted later for hanging. Place cut shapes on flat surface to air dry for several days. Flip shapes daily to prevent curling. After shapes are throughly dry, insert ribbon in hole, tie, and hang as ornaments.

That is a LOT of cinnamon! :)

I wonder if you could make scented doughs using essential oils and extra cornstarch or flour...

YES you can:D I once made rune stones out of the dough using a lavender scented oil and placed them in a dish on my coffee table. The scent lasted for a long time:)

Yes you can...you can also use vegetable oil or some other type which gives the dough a shiney finish....:)

Vegetable oil should work pretty good. Also, after you are done shaping your ornaments, try brushing a lite coating on them before baking them in the oven.;)

personally I varnish them to protect them from moisture

I always varnish the finished product of the baked salt dough....as for the cinnamon dough, the varnish will of course take away the cinnamon scent. Otherwise, the ornaments could probably be used temporarily for decorative purposes.:D
