Board of Education President Frank Giordano is unhappy with the situation and personally feels the woman should be fired. But Superintendent Charles "Chalky" Ottinger said the district has been advised against taking action.
"Not that we don't want to," Ottinger said.
Louisa C. Tuck of Vineland, a cafeteria and playground aide at the school, who also works with children at the YMCA of Vineland, starred in adult- oriented movies, performances and photo shoots under the name Crystal Gunns.
She told The Daily Journal it has been five years since she was involved in the adult entertainment industry.

I believe people should be given second chances and as long as she is not participating in such things now.
I wonder how they found out though.
Personally the kids aint going to know unless an adult tells them and if she is good at her job then there should be no issue. Even if the situation is weird.

Since when is there a correlation between being in porn and being a problem with children? It's a job, a decent paying one at that.

Second chance? That's a bit of a negative attitude towards those that work in the adult entertainment industry... it's not like she was a drug dealer.
I do not see a problem with her doing both jobs... hopefully not during the same hours :toofless: but I do not see how it would be her any less of an aside.

I fail to see what issue people have with this, this bizarre puritanical attitude people have needs to die.

She should be judged on her credentials as a teacher and that is all.
Maybe being in adult movies paid for her education..

I have to wonder how they found out. It's very unlikely that she volunteered the information herself. More likely, someone who had seen her work recognized her, and through a fuss. Which shows how hypocritical society is. It's okay to watch it, and be around children, but not okay to be in it.

Nothing wrong with being in the adult industry but sometimes there are consequences with taking that kind of work.
Alot of people would not want someone who had been in the business around children.

Why? Because they're prudes? What's it matter what a person did in the past, especially if it was something completely legal for them to do.

Probably. I even think I would be partly in that catergory at first glance.
Thinking it over I can see that there shouldnt be a problem.
Like its being said its not illegal just a weird career change

I think it's the knee-jerk reaction of a lot of people. "OMG!! She was in porn!!! Keep her away from the kids!!!" Without at all really considering the whole picture. Why did she do it? What has happened in her life since? Is she currently doing it? How will it affect her with the kids?
Kids don't really care. As long as the adults around them are taking care of them, and not acting inappropriately with them, it shouldn't matter what they've done in the past, or what they do outside of the work environment.
Of course I know that's not how other people see it...

How they found out? That's easy, one or more members of the school staff and school board are fans of her former work. Bunch of hypocrites is what they are because the only way they could find out is from people who know her work.
In addition, there is no legitimate complaint a parent can make to a former porn star working with children. She's not performing her former job in the classroom, in front of the children, and unless she is dressing in slut wear at school, there is no effect to the children at all. They will not even know that she does or did that sort of work unless their parents tell them. If the parents are telling their children, then the problem is the parents, not the porn star.

I agree Knee jerk reaction.. but let's face it. Society does not hear about the Triathalon runners who have never had a drink in the porn industry. It has a seedy reputation. We hear about the drugs, and regardless of what hardships or easy life this woman may have had... a school board is going to look at her scrupals and judgement. I don't think it is fair at all.

Seems like the most "puritanical" people are the ones who commit the worst offenses. Like priests, ministers, licensed teachers and other 'upstanding" members of the community.

I was paraphrasing this quote
"The YMCA has been great to me. They are a Christian place that believes that people can change. I'm sorry I had to put them through this," Tuck said.

so what if she used to be a porn star? why should she be treated any differently then someone then used to work at mcdonald's? as long as she does her job right she's not doing any harm. and second chance from what teishabee? it's not like the woman was doing anything wrong or illegal. she's a retired porn star not a criminal.

Sheesh, and people wonder why women have trouble exiting the sex industry!
I think she should be allowed to keep her job even if she is doing porn now, as long as she doesn't take the students on a field trip to watch her do a porn shoot!
I read about a similar situation in $pread magazine a while back where a woman was doing an unpaid job as a student teacher to get her degree and working as a stripper because that was the best way for her to pay her bills while working full-time in the classroom for no pay. She ended up losing the position when the school found out, and there was very little she could do about it.
I find this kind of thing pretty darn infuriating, and anyone who thinks it is ok for the school board to do this kind of thing should take a good hard look at exactly where that attitude comes from.
