Yesterday at work, I had a great moment of aggression mixed in with responsibility. :)

There was this couple shopping with their daughter. She couldn't have been more than 6. Adorable little girl, she should be in commercials. Anyways... they were looking at the jewelry and she saw a pentacle pendant. And she started hopping up and down, all excited and said, "Mommy! Can I have that for my Samhain ritual?" (she pronounced it right and everything!). Her parents smiled at her and said "Sure, honey." So then this guy, upper middle class yuppy type says a little too loudly, "Stupid f***ing Pagans." The little girl started to cry! So I walk over to the guy and say, "Excuse me, sir, I'm going to have to ask you to leave the store." All calm and cool and collected, even though inside I was screaming. He looks at me and says, "What? Why?" and I said, "I heard what you said about those people. *They* heard what you said, and I'm sorry, but Spencers doesn't condone religious intolerance." And he glared at me, and glared at the couple and stormed out of the store. :) My boss was there and was so happy with me for doing that and doing it in a nice courteous manner, even though he knew I wanted to punch him in his face. :)

So go me, I can be a good manager when I wanna be.

Rock on, Bree!

I'm all sorts of impressed that that scene actually took place. Everyone was even informed enough to insult each other. Amazing. I guess I'm used to my side of the Bible Belt where no one knows anything about Paganism except that it's "the Devil's work." Meh.

I agree Psyche. You know, I am not the type to wear outlandish clothing or a big fat pentacle just to get attention. Yet I wondered if anyone would say anything to me if I did. I started wearing my pentacle on the outside of my shirt to see if anyone would. I live in a huge big city and no one has yet said anything. It is not my intention to argue about my relig or start a fight. Just merely curious. I had one pharmacist go from jovial conversation to reserved professionalism upon seeing it. So far that is all the reaction I have ever got. I really think most people don't think about paganism or witchcraft outside of what entertainment value it gives to the silver screen.

Highly impressive move babe! Just the fact that the guy used that kind of language in front of such a small child would've given me an opening to go off! :D

Good for you!!! :boing: :boing: :boing:

kickass!!
in our candy store about two christmases back, there was a black woman shopping with her kids, and a white lady with frizzy blonde hair. the white lady had been particularily rude to one of the small black girls, who ran and told her mother in tears. the mother walked up to the blonde woman and told her she didn't appreciate that. the blonde woman's response was to scream "SHUT UP, YOU NI**ER!" the store was in an uproar, and my mother (the asst. manager) immediately told the woman to get out and to never come back.
*shake shead* it's amazing how polite children can be and how childish most adults can be.

Very nice Bree, I am like how well you said the right thing. You know, that child may remember that for the rest of her life. We all need to take a page from this and remember..

Very awesome. I've not run into anything like that yet.. but several people where I work have passwords that are "Jesus"... at least you can't very well sound pagan over the phone!

There are a few co-workers here in this group of cubicles that don't like pagans, but I just wear my herb pentacle, skillet charm (for Pan ;)), and fox around my neck like nobody's business. I've not been talked to about it yet. ;)

Go you! I also think that little girl will remember what you did for her and tell all her pagan friends to shop at Spencers. ;) I love that store.

I would have said and done something untoward like "I find your lack of faith disturbing." (crunch)
