View Full Version : Does anyone else dream like this?

Before you go off to sleep, do you ever see images of rooms, landscapes or other scenes?
That was a Q from a quiz I took. It got me to thinking and wondering. I have always remembered my dreams from the night before just as I drift off to sleep. I remember the feelings, the sites, the not quite real aspect of it and sometines sounds and conversations. And this is an every night thing. Do any of the rest of you do this?
And since we are on the topic, my surroundings in my dreams are always cluttered and not quite right. Like there is usually a room but never 4 walls, one is always missing and usually it is just the outdoors there. Not something fab like a waterfall but a parking lot or a yard or the front of the school. And the cluttered feel is hard to describe. Its almost like watching Friends, How the girls apt. is clean but cluttered but you can't really single any of the items out. But my dreams are not as colorful with the mess, more gray in those areas. There are usually certain items in the dreams that I can single out, it's the background that is the cluttered, and undefinable areas.

I tend to get a lot of visions as I drift off to sleep, if that's what you're asking.
Just last night I met Odin then, for example.
It works for me because I always find the divine in the in-betweens, and that's an in-between sleep and awake. And that's where I find them most often.

Well, that's not really what I meant but it is very interesting. That sounds like maybe you sort of meditate? Very cool.
I actually remember the dreams from the night before. Just as I drift off to sleep I remember what I was last dreaming like I was just waking up and recalling the dream. But if you asked me during the day what I dreamed of I probably couldn't tell you.

Yes, that happens to me too. Just before I fall asleep, the dreams from the night before, or parts of them, sometimes just feelings I had in that dream, are coming back for some time.
And the surroundings thing, well, it depends on the dream for me, but usually I have a complete one. Even if it doesn't always make sense, like you go from one place to another that actually doesn't make sense in the place it is, or I move a few meters and suddenly everything looks different.
But I guess that's just the thing about dreams, right? I would be quite scared, I guess, if I suddenly had dreams every night that tell me exactly and bluntly what they're supposed to mean. In regard of that your dreams come from your unconsciousness, maybe the items you can single out are more important, or have a kind of key position in what the dream wants to tell you. The grey areas could concern things that are not important, or even blocked areas that your unconsciousness doesn't let you access (not sure I'm expressing myself correctly now, I hope you know what I mean).
Just my two cents though, I'm not really a professional concerning dream interpretation :toofless:

In my dreamworking knowledge , to dream of a room with
three walls , and clutter , is a signal of the need to organize
the subconscious mind...
Perhaps looking at your thought patterns ?
What do you need to change...or organize in your life ?
Just a thought...:uhhuhuh:

You are expressing youself much better than I can, so yes, I know what you mean.
Like you my dreams seldom make sense, often I am one place doing someting and then all of the sudden its a different place with different people. I think if I remember correctly it has someting to do with the actual dreams being very short and quick but frequent a little more than flashes so our minds fill in the blanks. Now remeber this was 80's college science so what is known about dreams now could be entirely different. Science moves on without my keeping up.
And the cluttered areas just feel messy to me. I've always wondered if my ADHD is the cause of the cluttered areas, but even medicated I still have them. In a perfectly clean and tidy home I still dream cluttered. My best guess is that maybe everything I've encountered in the day is not being proccessed in an efficient way. That probably makes no sense, think of it like a computer and I save all of my photos, documents, mail, etc. without any organization, just in a jumble. That's what I imagine the clutter in my dreams to be.

Hey, I think you nailed it in way less words than I did! So how does one organize thoughts? I've been thinking with an ADHD mind for 40 years!

This may be off topic just a tinge...but ~right~ when I get ready to shut down for the night, I notice that I lose my sense of space. So, sometimes when I wake up, I think I'm in some other place. It's stupid... But then wouldn't that be just a normal, physical reaction to sleepiness? Maybe my cerebellum's remedial...

Wow! That is very interesting! That only happened to me once and I had a concussion, but it was sort of a cool feeling, for me anyway. Does it bother you?

Okay , NFC...
For your purposes , I recommend this...
Create , first on paper , to help your focus , and memory...
An idea for a servitor , which shall be your organizing agent...
In my Tradition , an organizing servitor , has six arms...
Black and white design pattern on outfit , like old jester...
That is my base suggestion...
Write down what exactly you want servitor to accomplish
for you , on a regular basis...
Create in your mind...see it...now program it...make sure...
I emphasize : make sure to tell it , it can rest , after it
accomplishes daily tasks , unless there is an emergency...
Give it access to your human bio - computer data bank...
Thank it for it's work , feed it love...this shall be a psyche
spirit helper...thus , name it , and give it a symbol , as it's
energy signature...
Create this , again , on the paper , for your reference...
Activate servitor , and set in motion...this may be accomplished
by a simple ritual on your part...
Servitor's name , and symbol , and assigned task , written on
another piece of clean paper...( Kinko's parchment , or rice paper )
Call out to servitor , speak what you are asking for , draw the
symbol in air , say you are activating , by realeasing desire
into the universe...burn paper...in bowl , safely...bury ashes ,
if any , in earth , to ground current...
Also...you may choose a time each day , or night , for task to be begun...
sort of like an automatic scan program , on your human
computer...:uhhuhuh:
Hope this begins to give you a basic idea...Blessings...
Remember...you are using your mind...to organize your mind...
By creating a "librarian" , or "record keeper"...got it ?

I have exactly the opposite, I think. I always have such a cluttered mind before I go to sleep, but as I wake up it's this strange feeling of pure... body. Like there is no difference between mind and body, no separation whatsoever. It's quite intense, actually. It's also when I remember all of my dreams. My dreams always also involve some sort of unrealistic aspect. Some kind of thing that could never be possible ever. One of my favorite examples is in one dream I had a best friend who was a Tyrannosaurus Rex named Clint who professed his love for me. That was just one of the crazy aspects of a crazy crazy dream.

Really? That happens to me too once in a while! I swear, sometimes, I wake up and I'm completly lost, it's almost like I have no idea who I am. Actually, that happened to me once, waking up and, I don't know if I was too much in the dream I was having or just needed more sleep, but I woke up and not only did I not know where I was but I had no idea who I was for the first second or two.
Also, sometimes, when I'm in-between, something will happen, I don't know how to explain, but I wake up and feel like I'm falling until I'm completly awake. It's slightly weird and exhilarating at the same time. lol.

I often find myself walking on a rocky beach and find myself stumbling and then jerking awake to stop myself from 'falling'. That's called a hypnic (or hypnagogic) jerk (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnic_jerk).
There are lots of phenomenon associated with hypnagogia, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia) like seeing, hearing or smelling things as you fall asleep or wake up, or even not knowing where you are. It's all normal and quite common.
