so here is the deal, it was St John's night, our masonic new year. I was in the lodgeroom snapping photos with a Cannon Powershot A650, a decent digital camera..

I got some really good pics of the lodgeroom.. apparently, I wasn't alone. the only other person in the room with me was a brother mason who was also taking pics, we did nothing with the lighting, looks like an orb here.. no other explanation... the second picture is of the newly installed Master of the lodge, I took one right after it and no orb...

Some of the guys were freaking out..
I am including the photos taken right afterwards to debunk the critics who will say it was the lighting or the lense. I took tons of pics that night and they only showed up in these two pics

I think Troy Taylor does a superior job debunking orbs in general: Orbs Debunked! (http://www.prairieghosts.com/trouble.html)

This orb in particular is too symmetrical, in my opinion, to be anything paranormal. A stray bit of dust or pollen 1 or 2 cm in front of the lens would easily explain the effect.

And a "point and shoot" digital camera is not one I would ever recommend for paranormal investigations. At the very least, one should invest in a single lens reflex camera.

Totally not my field of expertise, but the "orb" looking thing in the 3rd photo...when I get any liquid (usually water, but could be other things) on my eye glasses, which are, like the camera a type of glass lens and it dries, it leaves me with a circular "stain" that I can than see when I'm looking through them. The third photo just reminded me of that. If anything got on the camera lens -- water (rain, etc), even someone's sneeze or spit from talking, etc...it could have attached to the lens and dried, thereby causing that effect when the photo was taken.

I hope that makes sense! I'm sure those that wear glasses know what I'm referring to.

True, it could be dust, pollen, a (dried) water droplett(sp) (I've never seen anything like that on my glasses lenses but....hey...could be)....but I find it interesting that it only showed in two pictures out of many. I'm not saying it is....I'm not saying it isn't....I just find it interesting. How close together were the two "orb" pictures taken? Did you at any point clean your cameral lens? If they were taken one right after the other and then you cleaned your lens...it could explain why it was in only those two pictures. As for the type camera used....some who look for paranormal stuff swear by digital cameras and digital recorders; others say no no no no no....traditional film cameras and old style tape recorders; still others say no, it must be digital slr camera and some other type recording device................I say eah......if something is gonna show up, its gonna show up no matter what you use. Interesting pictures though no matter what. And Blessings "brother"..my maternal grandfather was a Mason and my maternal grandmother was Eastern Star. I have an uncle and friends who are Masons as well.

Really? When ever I go out and rain gets on mine and I don't wipe it quick enough, it'll dry and leave a sort of water mark--like with a glass in the dishwasher with those water marks or something (am I making sense?) Maybe it's my anti-reflective coating and how it deals with water on the lens, I don't know. :2G:

I think you asked some good questions though.

I was just throwing an idea out there is all :)

Hmm....interesting pics, Xander. I really don't much about orbs but I will say the first one DOES look like one to me. The right side is a little jagged which makes me believe it's possible as I've always heard that dust and such are perfectly round. That and the fact that you took another right after the first and it wasn't there. I say yeah this is an orb but that's my opinion. Good luck.

Well, I have seen orbs with my own eyes , in my yard. My daughter also had been camping and came back with one picture with orbs out of 20 pictures.

So, I think they are very real. :)

Did you see the color of the one in pic # 3? I know this is off topic but the colors are beautiful. I mean I've never seen dust spots or anything that vibrant.

I have seen the colored ones too.. When my Dad was in Hospice here at the house, I kept seeing a lavenderish Orb ( hard to describe the color, it was luminesent). Now my Mom is also preparing to leave and I have been seeing a bluish orb. Not sure what they are, their not always a perfect circle.

But the one I saw in my yard, in between the trees was simular to the one over the mans head.

That's interesting. :) I bought some land and it happens to have a cemetary on it and I took several pics out there. There were a few that were a mixture between lavender and blue~ they looked almost purple and shimmery. Those weren't symmetrical either, alot like this first pic Xander has posted. There's no doubt in my mind the first pic is an orb and prolly the third one too.

it's dust or something on the camera lens.

Could be a number of things, dust, reflection of light, and MAYBE something on the lense though I'm partial to the first two. I'm sorry Xander, to be the poo pooer here, but I don't see anything paranormal. Awesome Lodge photos though! :)

Oh no sweetie...I wasn't being snarky or anything! I've just never had what you describe on my glasses. Maybe it is something to do with the anti-reflective coating since I don't have that on my glasses but I've never had "water-spots" on my glasses. :kooky:

I am not saying this is what YOUR photo is -- BUT it reminds me of some pictures we took at a real estate deal.. When a house forecloses you pop in and take quick photos of each room. YAY this is what we got back -- usually a mess and to document problems. You kinda quickly hit each room.

There were two of us slamming through a list of like 6 houses, so that when we were done we could go do something else that day. When we went through the pics a few days later the one house had 3 pics that had a similar "orb".

Like yours when you could see it a bit bigger, you could see the definition in it of lines. To me yours looks like circles kinda inside.

When we looked closer at ours we notices some definition, and then I realized it actually looked like a charm that I wear. It does a good job of reflecting light and it was pretty clear that somehow, someway it had reflected ON TO that other lens of the camera to be caught.

Is there anything, similar looking at it in that "light" that makes you think hmmm ya know??

I didn't clean the lense at all it has one of those automatic covers that open and close when you turn it on.

the first set of pictures was taken one after the other, I took it and then one of the guys said "wtf is that over his head?" so I took it again at a wider distance..

second set, was before the meeting. I took one right after the other.. I took over 15 photos and those two were the only two where the orbs showed up.

the Blueish one is really cool though. I have had this camera for over a year now and this is the first time I have ever had this happen.

The first one I want to say was likely dust very close to the lense to make it appear larger.
