Indian woman gives birth aged 70: reports
NEW DELHI (AFP) - An Indian woman has given birth to her first child at the age of 70 after receiving IVF treatment, newspapers reported her doctor as saying Monday. Rajo Devi, who married 50 years ago, gave birth to a baby girl on November 28 after in vitro fertilisation, said Anurag Bishnoi, a doctor at the Hisar fertility centre in Haryana state.
Congrats to them.

Well I guess it just goes to show you're never too old. Although, I have to watch myself like Sacredsin and Artiste-Lili, I'm tempted to rant and rave but why go through all that. Congrats to the new mother and here's hoping the child will stay healthy and grow to live a good life.

You're never too old to love a child.

I agree. None of us has a guarantee that we'll be there for all the milestones in our children's lives, not even the ones who have babies when they're still children themselves. She may have as much to give her baby in whatever small amount of time (or maybe even many many years) as someone else could give if they had all the time in the world.

She was infertile and with recent technology was able to overcome it.
"IVF has revolutionised the way we look at infertility," said Bishnoi. "Infertility is no longer a social taboo or a divine curse. It can be treated scientifically."
Guess ya can't really rant about it to much.

my first question is why?
what is the point here? why did they want a child at 70 and 72? if it was because they want to share their love with a child, why not adopt?

Exactly..they'll croak soon and then who will care for the child?

There is no more a guarantee that an older mother will die before her child graduates from high school than is any guarantee that a young mother will live to see that either.
I dunno why some women feel so strongly about having their very own baby, but some really do have a strong desire.

But the chances are more likely, IMO.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Personally I think this was very cruel on the part of the parents. Have a child to what? Grow up taking care of you?
Next questions is what kind of Doctor would do this? It would be a serious ethics problem.

My automatic assumption is they did it to say that they could and/or they pitied the family.

true, however i think we can all agree that statistically speaking the chances are greater for this child to grow up with out parents then would the child of a 30 year old for example.
This is an entire other source of irritation for me. (and perhaps a bit off topic i know) I can understand the want to have your own children, but if you cannot i don't understand people who go through the money and difficulties of IVF, and complain about the cost etc. of the procedures when adoption is an option, or should be. And yes, I know that there are costs and difficulties associated with adoption as well, I just hate it when people dismiss the concept and then complain (or even worse, want insurance to cover) about the cost of IVF and other fertility treatments, it blows my mind.
