View Full Version : Bindrunes

I wanted to make a bindrune symbolising and helping me on my spiritual path, for a necklace I'm making. I have never attempted a bindrune before, so I have read and pondered and I think I have come up with a decent one, and I was hoping someone with a bit more experience could tell me if it's a good idea or if I'm about to do something stupid. The runes I was thinking of using in my bindrune are šagaz and jera and I was going to add jera above šagaz, combining them by the bottom diagonal line of jera and the top right diagonal line of šagaz...that didn't make any sense at all, did it?

LOL ok ignore the dots and try to imagine how they would merge if jera was lower (and actually looked like jera LOL). I can't see this combination forming any extra unwanted runes, can you? How well does jera and šagaz go together? I hope one doesn't cancel out the other in any way. Would there be any down sides of the combination? Is it balanced enough? LOL sorry for the 20 questions ;).

Me again ;)...what if I was to add jera twice? Once above and once below šagaz? Would that work? Be too much? I don't want jera to over power šagaz too much, but I drew it on paper and it looks a little more balanced.
I don't know the rules of adding the same rune twice. I tried looking it up but couldn't find any mention of it anywhere.

I like it...you're right...it does look nicely balanced. You have a pretty powerful bindrune there for personal growth & change. I would be interested also if there is anything about using the same runes twice.

Rule # 1: If you aren't sure what a BindRune means/will do. you probably shouldn't do it.

Rule # 2: For anything else regarding BindRunes, see Rule # 1 :D .

Jera & Dagaz are both Runes that embody Time. Jera means, literally, "year"; Dagaz means "day", so you would have the long & short of it, so to speak. Jera also represents harvest. Dagaz symbolizes a new dawning, or stepping from the darkness into the light. Doubling a Rune in any magical casting will reinforce that Rune's action. In this case, you would be doubling your potential harvest. If you connect these Runes as you describe, Jera above Dagaz above Jera, I can possibly see two Nauthiz (need) Runes. Nauthiz can bind negative energy.

I can see no reason that should keep you from using this BindRune.

A general BindRune for "reaching one's magical potential" is a Trefot, 3 Laguz Runes, equally spaced, connected at their bases. Looks kinda like 3 legs, or feet, running in a circle, ergo Trefot ("three foot").

Hope this is helpful.

Rick, the way you described your trefot sort of reminds me of the way this valknot looks:

Thank you! :)
I know I haven't been here much, but I just finished my final paper for my exam so now finally I will have some more time to do things I like, like visit here every now and then :)

And I said to Vinga that I hoped to see her here a bit more often in the future... :)

Blessings
