CLVELAND - Friends and family of 50 year old Emil Azzam want answers. How could the Cleveland man have died behind the wheel of his car in an accident on Friday, but no-one at the scene ever saw his body in his car.
......
About a quarter after seven, on the snow slick Jennings Freeway, Azzam was involved in a three vehicle accident. Police, fire and EMS all responded. His car was towed to impound lot number 7.
At 2am Saturday, still worried about his friend, Abdala says he went to police and found out he had been involved in the accident, but was told that all of the victims had been taken to Metro Hospital.
More calls were made to Metro and other hospitals, but there was no record anywhere of Azzam. Other friends say he seemed to have simply vanished.
"I pushed the issue because it was terrible how the person disappeared, not on the street, not at home and hes not at any of the hospitals."another close friend, Henry Saroukhan told Fox 8 News.
By Sunday, nearly 48 hours after the accident, Abdala says he and others asked police to go to the impound lot on West 130th to look again in the car. What they found was shocking.
"I drove out there i met the lieutenant, the seargent" said Saroukhan. "I seen him hes in the front seat of the car, not in the trunk, his body still behind the wheel, his legs and his upper body laying to the passenger side, sideways."
Friends say Azzam, who was only about four feet tall might have been concealed in the wrecked car by the air bag, which had inflated. But they still cannot understand how everyone missed him.
