not sure what forum to put this in so I figure this will have to do :)

My sister's mother-in-law is dying. She's over 100 and living with her and her husband. She recently started spiraling downward and they had to call hospice out. Hospice gives her about 1 month to live. The day they called hospice out, a bird, brown with spots on it's chest started attacking the window of the bedroom where the mother-in-law is staying. It has come back every day for the past 3 weeks and attacks the window. Needless to say, it has my sister and her husband freaked out. They think it's fighting with it's reflection but why that window? and why the day hospice showed up to give them the grim news? I told her to get some dove soap and dull the outside of the window with it to see if it still comes to the window. Not sure that will help tho, the bird seems pretty determined.

Has anyone had anything similar to this happen when a loved one is dying? When my mom passed a strange stray cat got into the house when they were taking her away by ambulance and refused to leave and a week or so later had a batch of 8 kittens... thought it was strange that happened... never saw the cat until it walked into the living room like it lived there for years.

The most similar situation I've experienced was when my sister's cat got killed in an accident, in the middle of the night a little song bird flew into the window. It was opened a crack and the bird found its way into the house and let us pick it up.

Have you looked in books or on the net to see if you can find what kind of bird it is? There might be something going on, but I don't know much about birds, so I couldn't help out with any symbolism or medicine the bird might carry.

I agree that knowing what bird it is is essential to messaging.

If you google 'brown bird spotted chest'
this

is one of the options.

Another choice might be a female red-winged blackbird

It might be coming as a volunteer to help your m-i-l cross the boundary of living/dead so as to insure she gets to a good place. What good place might be more obvious if you knew what bird it is.

Thanks for the replies. I spammed my sister with a bunch of bird websites with pictures of Californian birds. I have not seen the bird, just going by her description it sounded almost like a starling we have here in MI or a wren of some type, she didn't tell me the size just it was brown with spots. Hopefully she'll get back to me tomorrow with an ID on the bird. I did google to try and find info but when you type in birds and death/dying you get piles of links on the dwindling bird population which is a whole other depressing topic :(

I've heard of a flock of birds appearing at a window foretelling a death, but don't know about single birds. Carl Jung mentioned this in some of his writings, and is part of what led to his synchronicity theory.
