I got this deck for my fiance (since he's more into the dark side of Paganism & magick) and he absolutely loves it! :)

I took a look at the deck myself, read the book and even though the Necronomicon by Lovecraft is considered fiction (yet I believe the creatures he dreamt of might at least exist in another spiritual ream), I found the whole thing quite powerful. Later, I had a dream about one of the creatures on the cards during the night. To me, this means it's quite a powerful deck. The images are really beautiful and the deck itself has this aura of mystery that I find quite appealing.
In my humble opinion, the Necronomicon is nicer than the Gothic Tarot and I'd definitely suggest you to add it to your recommended list if you want to purchase something similarly dark or gothic.

I was wondering if anyone else has got it?

I have it. I think it's a great deck. I am into the darker sides of things as well, and I think that the images really suit the cards that they are for.

I like the story line within the book as well, for the different suits.

As for the aura of mystery. . .When I got it I was with a friend of mine and she had a fit saying that she can't believe I bought such an evil deck. I did not sense evil from it at all though.

That said, I do not do readings with this deck. Partly because I don't want to damage the cards with constant shuffling, but also because I can't get past the vivid images on the cards paired with the totally vanilla interpretations in the book. Part of a new deck, for me, is seeing how different people interpret the same card. I found this deck lacking in that regard. I'll just read with decks that I'm already familiar with.

I think it's a great addition to any collection though

Yay! A reply from someone who's got it and likes it! :D

I agree, it's definitely a great addition to one's collection. Heck, even I've been thinking of getting one for myself too although I'm not sure if it's the right one for me. I occasionally get this feeling that it's perfect for my fiance but wouldn't suit me since it's probably way too dark (I'm more of a light-side person). But the dark side of it still intrigues me a lot. I don't think the deck is evil though, just a bit morbid.

I read the descriptions of the majors and minors. Their stories were so vividly told that my imagination got really carried away. The images just inspire me A LOT. And I think the inspirational part is one of the important qualities of a deck, apart from of course being intuitively readable, understandable and apealling to the reader etc.
Unlike some decks, the Necronomicon tarot seems to tell a story, and it draws you in (well, it did to me).
Actually, some of the descriptions even sounded creepy to me, especially that one card (I don't remember it's name at the moment) which depicts a person who has almost become a skeleton, suffering and tied to a post and sort of eternally bleeding.. That kinda creeped me out for a second.

What's the scariest part is that I had a dream of one of those mentioned "reptilians" in the deck. I read the book and it says Abdul Alhazred had nightmares and stuff... lol.

I actually really enjoy this deck! I love the courts, they're so unique and evocative.

I bought it already knowing though that it had very little to do with HP Lovecraft and his mythos and more to do with Tyson's books. So I didn't have that annoyance and shock that many fans of HP had when first seeing the deck.

I myself am a HUGE fan of HP Lovecraft, the Dark Grimiore Tarot is the deck to go to for the whole true influence of the infamous author. Now that deck is awesome. The backs even have HP on them! One of my favourite backs EVER.

But the Necronomicon has it's delights and beauty too. I have never read Tyson's book series relating to Lovecrafts works but still the deck seems coherent and well put together. It's definately a narrative deck.

Here's a quickie look at the Dark Grimoire Tarot backs!

Actually this is one of my favorite decks, although I very rarely read from it since my Osho Zen tarot is always demanding it be the deck read from, heh.

The artwork is just astounding, really it is.

I so agree! The art here is very atmospheric and haunting, very hypnotic.

Oh dear. I may have to get both of these.

There is also an H.P. Lovecraft Tarot, but it's out of print and very expensive when you're lucky enough to find it.

I am a big fan of necronomicon tarot but I have never practiced it. I have a liking towards Lovecraft and the mythos. With the necronomicon set I have to say that the artwork is wonderful and good set to have even if you don't have a interest in tarot.
