I've been trying to put together a glossary/dictionary of pagan/religious terms. Try as I might I can't find a definition for Curse or Hex. I've been trying to figure out what the difference is between the two. Any help would be appreciated. Especially if you can give me references.
I think all these message boards need glossary threads. It'd help out a bunch.

maybe they're cinnonyms?
to me, a curse is more quck or casual, like "I curse you!! blah blah blah !!!" wheras with a hex, you might take more time? Or a hex is more related to witches and such, wheras a curse you'd more think of in reguards to an egyptian tomb. . or something ^^;

In the dictionary and in common use they are used interchangeably so I'd agree with Puma Hime that they are synonyms.
As to ancient egypt they didn't really use spells such as curses (or really, spells at all like we think of them)... just a random point of interest :)

I recall hearing somewhere that the word "hex" didnt originally mean a negative spell or curse. It was just a term for a spell. German perhaps? Erg, I wish I could remember. I'll look around, to see if I can find that info again.

Maybe Dutch, although I'm not sure.

"Hex" is Latin for "six," if memory serves. . . dunno if that would help, though. You can always check Dictionary.com (http://www.dictionary.com/) and see what they have for both words?

thanks, I visited dictionary.com. They basically said the difference between the two is nothing deepending on what era you're talking about. And Hex is a german word. It means to practice sorcery/witchcraft. It can also mean to put a curse on. or that you are using the base of 6 or 16. Curse is just generally an evil spell.
Thanks all for you help.
