31 December 1969 to be precise!

A forum is basically a big database - each post has information like posting date, member who posted and so on. Sometimes, these data are missing, in which case the database often fills in blanks with "-1" as a sort of filler. Dates aren't stored in the format we're used to as humans (eg 6 Mar 2006, or 6/3/06, or 2006-03-06) but tend to be stored as an internal number - the number of days since "day zero". Day zero is usually set as some arbitrary date a long way in the past; in a lot of forum software, this arbitrary day zero is 1 January 1970.

When a date field has -1 in it, the software says, "OK, that must be the day before 'day zero'" - and shows it as 31 December 1969 :)
