*Slaps forehead* Ok, there's nothing I hate more than an elderly person who thinks entirely that JUST because they're older than me, it gives them the right to treat me like dirt, but it's one that thinks that they can be immature and call names but it's ok because they're MY elder, and I should show THEM respect... but what's worse is when one of them is on the road.

Allright, today was my best friend's birthday party, and I had to drive her boyfriend to it, so we're all three in the car, and I'm pulling out on this one lane road, and there's this little gold MG like, 200+ yards away, I mean he was SO far away from me, so I pulled out, and then outta' nowhere he's RIGHT on my ass -- he's obviously speeding harcore -- and then he Passes me...ON THE RIGHT, on a one lane road!!! and that pisses me off, and I have road rage, so I flip him off, first instinct... and then he whips in front of me, and slows down, so I'm tailgating him a little bit, and I slow down so I'm not doing that anymore, and then I slow down even more for the stoplight, and so does he, but he stops like, 5 feet away from the damn line, and I didn't expect that, so I'm like, RIGHT on his tail, and we're stopped, and I'm just frowning at him... and he gets out of his car! And he walks up to my car, and so I lock my doors and give him this "don't come ANY closer" look, and he sees my friend's boyfriend in the car and stops and stands right at the windshield and yells, "You gotta' problem?!?!" And I said "Yeah! Whatever!" and I was about to reach for my phone if he came any closer, and he goes "Yeah, whatever," and points at me and goes "B!TCH!!" and turns around, and stomps off to his car... so I just said to my friends in the car "nice to know you're more mature than me in your old age..."

All the while, I'm giving him "what the ****" looks... and since he took his sweet time to come out and curse at me, he wasted the green light, so he starts on a yellow, and drives through a red light! My dad says I shoulda' made it a point for him to see that I was writing down his license plate number or dialed on my phone so he'd think I was calling the police. :p

Sorry, dunno why I had to post this, guess I just wanted to rant. It's not every day that an old man calls me a mean word... it just irks me because that's JUST the type of guy to say "you pay your elders respect!"

Tucson drivers are so stupid...

You'll get those kind of drivers anywhere, unfortunately.

I completely sympathize with what happened to you and I think you handled it really well.

I know what you mean SS!!! I've had some experiences like that.

ugh i can sympathize.
once, i was parking into a space at the grocery store, and the car next to me was parked past his space's line, but i made sure to leave him enough door-opening room. well, when i came out, he was standing in front of my car, this old man probably in his 60's...I walked up and he goes "HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO OPEN MY DOOR?" and i'm like"um..you have enough room, but let me go ahead and get out if you think you don't" so i get into my car, and start to pull out of the space, when this guy kicks the front of my car and yells "STUPID BITCH!"
I was appalled that this man got so enraged when I did nothing to encourage that kind of behavior. I was so freaked out i just hightailed it out of there.

flipping people off while driving is not a good idea. please do
not do this. you have no idea of the mental status of any driver,
and you think you got road rage? That person you flipped off
could have just as easily been mad enough to run you off the
road or shoot you. It happens. Even honking is dangerous
nowadays.

yeah ia gree with flar7....it shows your immaturity too, i think..

Hmph. Last I checked, someone who's between 16 and 17 is allowed the occasional immature act. What's the other guy's excuse? And why was he paying more attention to her than he was to the road?

Ugh...I totally sympathize, SS... I was in a parking lot, and some lady (with a herd of kids) were crossing one of the lanes. I stopped for her, and some other driver was coming up behind them, apparently the other driver thought I was going to pull right out in front of him (I was soooooo far back). So anyway, she motioned to the other driver and had the "wtf do you think you're doing, kid!?" look on her face. Then she went off on her high horse b*tching about how bad of a driver I was "trying" to run over her, and her herd of kids. Before she went on, I swear she would have punched in the front of the van...but she just hollered at me "F*** YOU!"..

I hollered it back at her....Those are the kind of people I joke with around my friends and get them to say how much they'd pay me for running them over. Bah!

well perhaps, pheonix, but i consider flipping someone off beyond immaturity...it's a form of road rage in itself..i'm not justifying the wa ythe man acted, but i don't think it's right to consider him "the bad guy" in the situation...

flar7
October 21st, 2002, 05:25 PM
oh, the other guy was the "bad guy" in this situation. He drove
like a maniac passing on shoulder. Exited vehicle at stoplight
for tirade. I was just pointing out that it is more dangerous out
there than that, and you cant or shouldnt flip people off (not
cause of niceness or whatever) because they may get more
irrate than that fellow, and then shoot you.:) :shot:

*shrug* i think you shouldn't flip anyone off period, i think it's a ridiculous gesture, but oh well....

You do get drivers like that everywhere.

Road rage is one of my weakness and one that I've been trying really hard to control over the past year. I was so bad that my kids would check me, "Mama they can't hear you. Why do you do that? Your gonna make us wreck."

But Flar has a very good point. You may be mad but you don't know how the other person is gonna react.

I did have a bad situtation the other day where a log truck pulled out in front of me in the far lane when his merging lane was clear. I nearly hit him cause other vechiles were pulling out too. I had to swerve in between another car to keep from hitting him, past him, the pulled in front of him and flipped him off. I felt really bad afterward - but he could've been in the state of mind just to ram the hell out of me.

Road rage is something we all should try to control.

(But SS I do know how you feel.)

I do that too, SS. And I gotta say, I'd have been hard pressed to just sit in my car while he was yelling names at me, if it had been me. I think you handled the situation beautifully. And as for flipping him off... I'd have done it too. He put you, your passengers, and himself in danger when he passed you on the shoulder. He's lucky you didn't call the cops. He could have gotten a wreckless driving ticket, which is a helluva lot worse than someone flipping him off.

(((SS))) Boy you got my complete understanding on this. See, what the rest of the group doesn't get it how many older citizens we got... and all the imported driver's licenses with different ideas of the right of road. Throw in the demented geriatric set and abracadabra... you got mayhem. 6 or so months of the year we get the snow belt set moving in... and then we have true traffic nightmares. Mix this in with road rage and self important people...woohoo. Plus we have hugh accident tie ups here in Phoenix too.

I want to add the last time I flipped someone off they pulled a gun on me...recently a guy followed me for over 9 miles and at each intersection he screamed at me... til I finally found a cop and pulled in by them.... scary indeed. No birdies fly in my car anymore. :(

**Nods** Not too long ago, I had some genius who was in too much of a hurry get about two feet behind me, tailgating. . . bad idea, because I brake for tailgaters.

Well, this turkey decided to stalk / chase me halfway around the city of Montgomery! I drove through two parking lots, ran a red light, and did 80 mph down a stretch of 45 mph highway in hopes of eluding this guy, but didn't actually shake him until I went through the entry control point at Gunter Annex. And even then he sat at the intersection for a moment or two. . . **shakes head and shudders** I never got a good look at the driver.

I've memorized the dude's truck, though, just in case I should run across it again. I still brake for tailgaters. . . I've never really been one to flip people off, so that's not a problem; but I absolutely refuse to have someone that close to my back-end who isn't a proctologist!

Yes, I realize flipping someone off isn't the best decision, and probably what set him off in the first place. I wasn't trying necessarily to say I was right in doing it, I'm sure it's an immature act as well (but hell, I'm only a kid :p...jk) I was merely pointing out the stupidity of drivers, and the anger that I get from older people like that...

Besides, am I not a Tucson driver myself?? :D

SS, you are indeed a driver in Tucson. No, I used to flip people off, after all , who better than a grey haired granny to mess with minds??... but not any more. Too scary. You have fun now, ya hear? :D

not sure if it works everywhere, but when I was living in Colorado, you could take down the license plate number for the offending car and call the police...they won't do anything immediately about it. But someone driving like this is bound to be pulled over, and when they do, the police are gonna run the background check and it's gonna come back with several people calling in about this driver...they will most definitely get a ticket and a strong lecture about their driving habits...

If you wanna live in a place with decent drivers, try Texas... Specifically Dallas. That's where I was born and raised. But, when we moved to Arkansas, my mom had to develop a whole new style of driving to compensate for the immense arrogance and stupidity of the drivers around here.

One of the things she told me ex-step dad when we moved here is, "I can't wait until I get my Arkansas license. Once I do, I won't have to use my turn signals, I own the road, and stop lights/signs have absolutely no meaning."

Also, here's a list of the different type of drivers that are most common in this town:

Sunday Driver: These guys are all over the place. EVERYWHERE. You know the type. They drive at an incredibly slow pace, which is pretty bad for me as well, even though I'm a pedestrian. Try waiting for a Sunday driver to pass before you can finally cross the road. And once they do, the faster cars have caught up, and it's suddenly to busy to cross. Urgh!!

Jabber Mouth: These people are too wrapped up in their cell-phone conversations to know what they're doing. This group mainly consists of the various preps found at the University.

Impatient One: These people HATE going slow... They drive at ridiculously fast speeds when they have a chance, ignore stop signs, and when they finally DO stop, it's very sudden. Some even try to outrun the cops  Problem with these guys is finding out that the guy who's giving you a ride is an Impatient One, and you've already left the house.

Male Rednecks: The KINGS of bad drivers! They're trucks are so out of shape that they're disturbing to look at, and they're shirtless (and sometimes pantless) bodies are even more disgusting. They either drive too slow or too fast (depending on how sober they are), and show a blatant ignorance of road rules and respect to other drivers.

Female Rednecks: This is what happens when "ma" has to run errands, and she ALWAYS brings her seventeen adorable children with her. She's not half naked like her male counterpart, but is still dangerous, as she's too busy yelling at or slapping her kids to pay attention to the road.

Edger: These are the people that park WAY TOO CLOSE to other cars. I don't know what's more annoying... When they park too close to your car so you can't get in/out, or when you're a passenger with an Edger in the driver's seat, and they park too close to another car and you can't get out...

EmeraldOak: you'v egotta be kidding, right? o_o i've seen some of the WORST drivers in texas i've ever seen. i live there too, and the drivers are like maniacs! the list you just made applies to texas as well *nods*

texas drivers? well, theres good points and bad points.
good~they drive like me.

bad~ they drive like me.

In Dallas, it is against the law to signal if you are changing lanes, I guess?
Also, never doubt that the car next to you on the four lane at
70+ IS coming into your lane(get used to it) But on the bright
side, they never poke along in Dallas. If traffic is slow its cause
of the construction (that is like the pheonix, perpetual and forever)

Oridian lives in Dallas. I love driving there, is fast and furious, and
no mercy or quarter is given. But the pollution is the worse of
any city I have been to. Kansas City is second. The car exhaust
never leaves the city.......
