I was noticing that we often refer folks to get help in their local areas but we don't always know where to send them. This past summer I had a situation with a friend who was 1000 miles away and in a very bad spot. I needed to know what to do for her and I needed to know FAST!
I'm in the US and I called the Boys Town Hotline at 1-800-448-3000. They swiftly obtained the info I needed to help my friend and they talked with me for a few minutes. The operator had a database of local services that she accessed to do this.
Perhaps we could start a thread with this number and similar numbers for the UK, Canada, Australia and ect. and then have them in one of those headers so they're easily accessible. Sometimes when you are dealing with suicide or DV you need local help NOW and this might help people get hooked up with the help they need. Maybe this could get stickyfied??
Again, The Boys Town Hotline 1-800-448-3000. Website http://www.boystown.org/Pages/default3.aspx
Please add national helplines from your respective countries!
