I've always been interested in astrology. I'd like to learn more, not for anything but the purpose of knowing myself better. Is there anyone out there who can help me? Any books, references that are easy enough for a middleschooler to understand would help. I've checked out books from the library and you already have to have an understanding of astrology to follow them. Very confusing.

flamedLlillly, I can help you if you really want to learn. Depending on which system of astrology you may want to learn, Litha, I believe can teach the popular tropical syatem and I can teach either the popular or the more accurate Sidereal system. Perhaps if you start with an instruction book, you can ask either one of us to explain what you do not understand . This would make it easier on us.

see that's part of my problem, I really don't know anything but what I get from the free analisys online, and the daily horoscopes. So what you just said I don't understand. I didn't know there were different kinds of astrology to begin with I thought they were all the same thing.

COuld you maybe give me a brief summary of the different types that you know of? That way I might be able to search for information better.

Thanks for your help already.

Flamedlilly, the fundamental differences between the two is that the Sidereal System uses fixed points in the heavens to mark off the several Zodiacal signs. While the modern Tropical system is constantly changing positions in the heavens. This is due to he problem of referencing O degrees, or the beginning of the zodiacal sign Aries with the Spring equinox. The equinox constantly changes position over the years, and is now over 25 degees separated from the original place marking the stellar-based postition of 0 degrees Aries. Of course, if one sign is off, or if the fiducial (the main stellar referencing point) is innacurate , the other signs will also follow suit.

The modern Tropical zodiacical Astrology has degenerated to a system of personal notions, and "mystical" delineations. It is far separated from its original foremat found in the Sidereal method. Unfortunately, the Tropical system is what the world accepts as Astrology today. If you study the Sidereal Zodiac with personality traits, progressions , and prophetic Solar and Lunar Return charts, you will be amazed what the original Astrology will show, also you will NOT be popular with your Astrological knowledge. The study of any school of Astrology is like learning Piano for example, in that it takes up much of a student's time, being utterly devoted to it.

Wow, I didn't know there was so much involved in astrology! I'm truly impressed! I'll have to get a basic reference book and start there. What books do you have on your shelf? is there any that you would recomend to someone who is just starting out?

Flamedlilly, When I went to Tucson, Ariz. last month, I visited several used book stores and purchased some of the texts I had in my old library, before it was all destroyed. Most all texts on Astrology are the Tropical vairety. I found an old copy of the A to Z horoscope maker and delineator. It is a large book with about 400 pages in it. (I personally knew one of the co-authors of the same work.) It contains mainly traditional teachings -but it shows the incorrect way to calculate charts -which is not uncommon with many Astrological text books. I do not know how many used book stores you my have near you. Here in S.E. Kansas, there isn't much to write about. But regardless of which one you purchase, whether new or used, I can direct you in the pages of study. If you can find an A to Z book, this would greatly help, but any one of them will do. Kthinking that if you do locate an instructional text, you could send me your questions, with the reading of the text, and I'll try to straighten you out.

Thanks again Methane. I went to library during lunch and picked up the idiots guide to astrology. I figured that it helped me with cameras maybe it'll help shed some light into the world of astrology. What do you think about this book?

flamedlilly: I do not know anything about that text. In fact, I've never heard of it. The only way I can tell about it is to read part of it. But if you want to start with this one, it is OK. Just begin with a page and ask me anything that you do not understand after reading it.

check your local library and used books stores, very often there are quite a few good books to get started on!
