I feel like a worthless caregiver for my pets. I just lost my 4 inch long fire belly newt in the apartment earlier today and we still haven't found him. I lost him when I was on here about 2:45 today when I turned my head for a second. I know I was entrusted with his care being I am his human. I just want him back so everything can be back to where it was and I can eat and sleep again. I am so worried about his welfare!!! His mate just hides now without him unless I take her out, then she looks around too.
I feel absolutely terrible as I should.
Please for the newt's sake, help me find him!!! It wasn't his fault! I promise to be more careful!
Thank you!

In This Circle I Do Stand Here ,
And By The Light Of Salamander ,
And As The Lizard , Dreamer Be ,

I can't thank you enough!! I have said this aloud, hoping he hears my call, and comes out and shows himself to me. I was choking back tears when I read it the first time, and I was trying hard to find my voice as I read it aloud but somehow I managed. I said it with an open heart.
Thanks again!
Blessed be,
:hugz:

:hugz: Don't feel bad... I've lost ferrets, and geckos, and pretty much every other small pet I've ever had at one point or another. They just get away sometimes. Look down low, especially in the kitchen, as often times there are gaps or holes where the builders didn't want to have to refit a piece. Since you can't see it from above, it doesn't matter. Also, make sure there aren't any mop buckets or anything low like that that he could get into (lost a hamster like that when I was 4). Also, I'd recommend sitting on the floor instead of in the chairs if there's any way he could get *into* them. Next, check each room very thoroughly. Start with the easiest room first. Once done, shut the door and block it off with a towel or something so that he can't sneak back in that way. If you have any low vents, check and make sure there's no way for him to have gotten into them, I'd cover those too if you can. If he has a particular type of treat he enjoys, sit it out in the middle of an open room, if you can. I don't know if your newt eats things that don't move, but one of my lizards loved bananas and baby food, and would come running for it.
Relax. :) Your little one will probably show up and scare the living daylights out of you when he appears. :hugz: Good luck!

Thank you so much! I won't stop trying, and will do all you suggest. He likes his food living though, but I did put food pellets in the shallow water dishes I have out for him. If he gets hungry enough, who knows?:hahugh:

If you feed him crickets, or I guess anything else living, maybe put some in a clear container too? He would hear crickets, and if you feed him worms or something, leave the top of and he might notice them that way. :)

I am afraid to block off a piece of the wall that is by the radiator that is between our wall and the outside wall, in case he already went in the area between. Hopefully if he did, he will come back in the apartment if he gets too cold. I do not think he could get outside the apartment, just between the wall. That is bad enough. I don't want to take the chance of sealing him in there!

Oh yeah! Don't seal off anything that he could be in or behind! Just the area's you're sure of (like a bathroom, bedroom, closet, etc.). Anything where, even if by some chance you're wrong, it wouldn't hurt him anyways. ^_^

Aww Clair, you have had a really bad week.( hugs)
I think the food in a jar is an awesome idea.
How did the lil guy get out?

I was letting them exercise on my lap and then on the computer table while on here earlier and got distracted for about 2 minutes and the other was easy to find and this one who is lost, well...not so lucky. He wandered off.

:hugz: When my hamster (Peter) got out (3 times) we did managed to find him in a relatively short time (he hid in the same spot all three times!!). I hope that you find your newt soon and that you can look on this as a learning experience.

Thank you so much! Me too. :hugz: That must have been nerve wracking the first time he got out! I know you and everyone else who has lost a pet knows what I am going through....long or short time, however long you end up looking, it is a special kind of hell on earth! :hugz:

Going on 11 hours missing now, and i need some sleep:
Hoping I can lure the escapee with the aid of the heat lamp and the other newt in the little carry case underneath (and the crickets in their cage, and the water and all the other goodies I have out under there). The newts really like to cuddle together. I saw his mate looking around for him again in the case and she keeps looking out for him.
Let's see if this works...
