a wiccan friend of mine invited me to New Year Celebration on the 31st. Is the 31st the wiccan new year? i didn't think we had a new year.... let me know okay.

Samhain is considered by many traditions to be the Celtic New Year. The Celts themselves followed a lunar calendar.

It is entirely up to you as to how you view Samhain celebrations. I personally try to keep myself on a lunar calendar spiritually, but not everyone does. For those that follow the solar calendar, New Year's won't be here until after Yule.

Or you could be a crazy person like me, who thinks that Samhain is the Spiritual New Year and Yule is the Physical New year.

Yes, it's really all a matter of personal opinion.
I like the idea of Samhain as a spiritual New Year as some folks feel this is also the traditional time to banish negativity. I think a spiritual cleansing is a wonderful way to start the New Year.
You can still celebrate the calander New Year.
Alot of people celebrate two holidays that fall close due to family and friends - Yule and Christmas is a good example.
