View Full Version : Truly Dumb Question

And one I should know by now. How do you place a constant ward without locking your spirit buddies out? Cause I have quite a few spirits that I attempt to visit with at least once a week. But I'm a bit tired of getting unwanted visitors. So how do I welcome the welcomed while keeping out the unwelcomed?

disclaimer: not saying its dumb for everyone. just dumb for me personally

If this is considered a 'dumb' question... I'd hate to think what an easy question looks like.

I would do it this way. Weave your intention to keep malicious spirits away from you, while welcoming neutral or positive spirits in. A ward is, after all, an extension of your own psyche and so you would follow your mindset.

well, it would seem to me, but it may be different depending on your philosophy of magic, that when you are creating the ward you would focus intently oin the use of the ward.

Lets say for example you are making a simple symbolic ward to hang next to your front door.

You get together pieces of purity such as salt, certain stones, maybe small medallions, possibly a blue Evil eye bead. When you are placing all of these things into the pouch or bag or whatever you're using, you would focus intently on each item. You'd charge that item with your energy, whether that be your thermal heat energy or your mental energy. You would proceed to place a letter of warning inside the pouch. You'd place that same warning in a place where you could see it, and subconsciously plant it in your memory. That way the ward is planted in your psyche.

At the same time, you also place with that mental planting, the intention of keeping only bad spirits out. So say your warning is:

May no bad spirits cross this threshhold,
May no malice cross my door.
May good spirits find company here
May good fellows join my home.

(I know thats really bad, but it's almost 1:30). So you have that written on a pioece of paper with those other symbols at your front door... and you have it also posted, say on a post it note, to your bathroom mirror. Your subconscious, mental energy will feed the spell and your intention will act as the bouncer.

If that makes sense. Again this may be different if your philosophy of magic is different. My philosophy of magic is mostly all psychological association play.

Salt and water are commonly used for protection and warding. St. John's Wart is another common one for warding. Toby's chant has all the right stuff, but I prefer my chants to rhyme. I think there's power in a rhyming chant. Some examples...

Let this home be safe and strong,
Lock out what does not belong.
Root and Branch, Leaf and Tree,
Evil now shall banished be.
Keep it happy and secure,
Let the love grown here endure.
Good spirits welcome here shall find.
So mote it be, this ward I bind.

Once with water, once with salt,
Good spirits can stay, malice shall halt.
Twice with water, twice with salt,
Good spirits can stay, malice shall halt.
Thrice with water, trice with salt,
Good spirits can stay, malice shall halt.

This is the blessing/warding I've had up in my house (each time I've moved) for about 15 years. Seems to be working well.

That is hilarious!
And also effective. I love it! (as well as the serious one)

I do an enviroment ward/amulet, I find things around my yard and some inside and make a sort of sculpture and put it somewhere in my yard by my door empowering it to protect inside and out

then there is this one ..done on the New moon {which is tommarow here}
Light a white candle then put a small piece of jet or obsidian sea salt rosemary rue and mint in your cauldron, Focus on your situation then your element and add star anise, thyme and more sea salt then say

“What evil comes to me here I cast you back and have no fear with speed of the wind and dark of the night may all your harboring take flight, with all the swiftness of the sea and the power found in me As I will So Mote It be”

then get 9 whole cloves light each with the candle and immediately drop into the cauldron one by one, then light the rest of herbs and let smolder, you can take the cauldron through your house getting the smoke all through let your candle burn out then either bury the herbs or pack them away from you.

BTW I love your saying Lunacie:thumbsup:

I don't think that it is a dumb question at all. I often worry about stuff like that. Whenever I do a protection spell I worry about locking out the good energy as well. Personally I have found it helpful to visualize a protective shield as filter as opposed to a wall. Unless I am in great need of protection. I'm not sure if that is helpful. If not, good luck to you.

Aluokaloo :

Others have said it well , as far as intent...

And what , in certain traditions , is known as "informing" ,
is also important...defining your boundaries , and informing
your Wards , Guardians , Egregore...

I recommend the thread , recently posted , on Egregore and
Servitors...great thread...

In that thread , I posted this...another rhyming chant , I use...:uhhuhuh:

An old warding charm that could work is a slotted iron spoon hung over your front door. It keeps the unwanted spirits out, but leaves openings (the slots), for the desirable spirits to come in. It also works on people as well...:deviltail

wow I'm really glad you asked this question because I was having trouble with it as well... I have a bit of a conundrum that some of the beings I associate with aren't always considered "good"... (I usually avoid the 'good/bad' words all together since to me everything is shades of gray.) and though their intentions are usually of a decent nature their methods are... well less so, and sometimes its hard to tell the difference between malice and a hard lesson that may leave scars.

so I suppose I was wondering if a ward or a sentient guardian would be more appropriate in cases like ours where some can come in and others probably shouldn't?

sorry for the rambeling I've had alot of caffeen today.

Slow down from the caffiene...LOL... and like other's should...
respectfully said...read what has been previously mentioned...
then research it , before the question...:bigredgri

Because I am nice , this time , I shall provide the link , for you ,
and others...but there is the thing here , called :

"Search Function"

After I mentioned the Egregore and Servitor thread...

All it would take is self motivation...

http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?t=207629&page=4

I am not picking on you , my friend...I am just feeling frustrated
when I see myself and others , not just in this thread , try to help ,
and give answers...and then , people do not read , or follow links
which are provided , nor using initiative , further research on their
own regarding terms mentioned...

I hope this is a reminder to everyone...I guess it is needed...:uhhuhuh:

I believe in the power of thought and intent.

For me, a warding would be knowing that I am protected from evil spirits, however, Wolf (my Spirit Guide) manifests as man and wolf, and he seems to be doing a great job. Being on a Shamanic path, you can't ward off all of the evil spirits, you have to encounter them to appreciate the good.
