Are you on any meds now? Herbs can interact with some medications badly.

Hawthorn - with strong OPC antioxidants, hawthorn cleans out brain toxins and strengthens blood vessels and tissues. Hawthorn facilitates oxygen and nutrient transport to the brain.

Alzheimer's disease and memory loss - hawthorn has long been used in eastern medicine for treating age related forms of memory problems. There are two ways in which the herb works that have been identified by researchers; one is through its effects on cholesterol since fewer and smaller plaques in the arteries supplying the brain means that more blood reaches the brain's tissue.

Ginseng is an adaptogen that can help improve the body's overall ability to adapt to and cope with the negative effects of physical and environmental stress. Clinical studies confirm that ginseng can help enhance endurance, reduce fatigue, and improve coordination and reaction time. There is also some evidence that ginseng can boost immune function, helping the body fight off infection during times of stress. In laboratory studies, ginseng has shown potential in protecting liver and heart health, regulating the function of reproductive hormones, normalizing cholesterol and blood sugar levels, and improving memory and learning.

Rhodiola rosea...

btw...it can by used with anti-depressives.

I actually know of nothing that it would react badly with..

Here's an article about it...though it's not a very good one..

Hey, is it also true you can't overdose on herbs, like regular drugs, cause you're all naming a bunch of stuff, lol

I don't know that that's true, actually.

Some can cause sever damage if not taken correctly, especially along with certain prescription medications.

well, i'm not taking any prescription medications, just the tylenol for my back...so i don't think there should be any interactions on that front at least... _inabox_

Firstly, anything that is "medicine" is also "poison".
ANYTHING can be overdosed on...even water....It's just a matter of how much of it you use before you see undesirable effects.

For example, you can certainly, very quickly overdose on belladonna...
It would take much longer to overdose on others, though, like stinging nettle.

The rhodiola rosea root, I can tell you from experience...you start with a low dose, and the try a little more if it's not doing what you want it to.
It's a great herb, and while it would take an awful lot to kill or 'poison' someone, I have this to say...

I use rhodiola in tincture form, and the dosage recommended is generally to start at about 3 - 5 drops.
Most herbs recommend about 15 drops.
I forgot which one I had in my hand and took 15 drops.
I was a little too 'revved up'. I learned not to do that again.
It won't hurt you, but it sure wasn't comfortable.

Also, everything...I repeat EVERYTHING has "side effects"...it's just a matter of whether or not you can live with them.

I was beaten to the punch  There are plenty of herbs you can easily OD on. :) Do a little research before starting on any of the herbs listed.

I use Gingko Biloba and Ginseng, which work perfectly for me. If you have concerns with any of these herbs, I suggest going to a herbal specialist for more information.
