When i first read this I was like damn who was the mark ass trick that took the pic. That was not cool.I guess mike forget that he had reached a different level and can't be out doing stuff like that anymore especially with random haters around.
This is proof that when someone works hard to acheive there goals and dreams. There is always one mothertrucker around trying to bring you down.Mike was out partying having a good time and then buzzkillington has to ruin it with a camra phone.

That Buzz Killington...talking about Scots and cornmeal and port sides...

But in all seriousness, I had heard something about them not allowing him to compete in the next Olympics because of it. That seems a little harsh.

And here I was hoping this was about Fred!

No, it was Phelps who ruined it all. He f-ed up and he needs to face the consequences. Phelps is not just some big, dumb pool jock... he's set himself up to be a (money-making) good example. He needs to behave.

PS. Heard this morning Kellog nixed his contract. I agree with that decision.

Grrrrrrrrrrr..... the only issue is that he got caught! More people than you may realize "smoke up" now and then and are doing just fine..... even great! Yes, he f%$ked up.... in that he got caught.... but really, dose it mean he didn't swim that great? At least it wasn't steroids!

Phelps is stupid. Hey, if he can smoke pot and win 8 gold medals, that is amazing. Where he really messed up was his response.

The correct response would have been, don't you realize that is a water tobacco pipe.

Man, his pot, my booze... I just wonder many things. like, if his lungs were even better from not smoking, he would be a fish. And like, gee, if the Government put a tax on it, it would not be an issue. and .. never mind. I just live and let live, unless you personally screw with me.

I think a lot of people's problem with this is it blows the theory that if you smoke marajuana you will be a worthless loser completely out of the water!

My parents, to this day, don't believe I smoked marajuana in high school and college because I kept an A average, was a cheerleader and played softball. A lot of people pass judgement on marajuana and those who use it based on false information. All those reports are not necessarily true.

As for losing Kelloggs. Eh, they make a lot of things I like, but nothing I can't live without, or find something else to replace it. They are off my "approved manufacturer" list.

Big whoop. It's only pot, which is relatively benign, a lot more benign than alcohol, for example. As long as he isn't getting high during competitions, I don't see how it's anyone else's business.

Pot is illegal, that's why it matters. Just like drinking and driving is illegal. This guy is not setting a good example for kids, period.

If he wants to be on the cover of Pothead Monthly, however, he's good to go! :weirdsmil

Drinking and driving and smoking pot are 2 completely different things. To compare the 2 is outrageous!
As for the setting a good example for the kids.He won 8 golds medals he would have to do way more then get caught smoking some pot to out shine that.

Why couldn't it have been Fred Phelps instead of Michael Phelps?

He was busted for DUI in 2004. That was bad enough... now this. He's just not being the sports hero he should be. If he wants the bucks, he's got to be law-abiding or expect to forfeit some of those contracts. They've hired someone to be a good example, not a substance abuser.

Agreed.

We need to set good examples for our own kids anyway and not depend on public figures and celebrities to do that job.

So much for marijuana making people lazy!

I am curious..... Have you ever.....

Dropped your gum wrapper on the ground?

Walked or driven off with the bank teller's pen?

Lent your vacuum to your next door neighbor?

Worn a red dress outdoors after 7:00 pm?

Ever kicked a rock on city property?

Because all of that is illegal in Colorado.

If you want to only see black and white, that is all you will see, however, there are a many shades of gray that are still there.

As for setting a good example. We've had, in the last few years, pro wresters who murder their families and then kill themselves, pro football players who are abusing animals. Pro baseball players who are abusing alcohol, driving while doing so resulting in their death. I don't think taking a few hits off a bong can compare in any way.

I understand the "there is no compromise on right and wrong" but I don't agree with it. There are degrees of right and wrong.

What I want to know is why people are like big whoop, with it comes to this guy and when a Canadian snow boarder lost gold after testing positive for pot in his system... the world gasped. It's pot people, it does not improve your ability(especially in motor skills) in the least.

I could careless. The only person who needs to be a good role model for my child is me. Athletes, actors, politicians.. they are just human and make mistakes.

Stoners probably eat more Frosted Flakes than kids do. I am rather fond of Frosted Flakes with chocolate milk poured over them in the morning. That and a cup of coffee does more for me than any energy drink I've ever tried.:mmm:

Him losing one endorsement and having to sweat whether or not he can compete might make the kids pause a moment before they hit the next bong. Not likely though, as most people hitting a bong haven't won an honerable mention let alone a gold medal. :crazyman:

However, he set himself up as an athlete, not a saint. Stoner or not, he's still an excellent swimmer and his gift is still worthy of admiration, more so considering what some people think of potsmokers. If more potsmokers were winning gold medals, pot would be legal by the end of the month. :smoke:

So he loses a breakfast cereal and does an ad for Trails; there are plenty of companies out there who won't care that he puffs a magic dragon from time to time.:rotfl:

Yeah, he made a HUGE mistake, but I give him a TON of credit for fessing up to it. He's young, and all people make mistakes. I'm glad he took responsibility for his actions. Many celebrities deny or ignore mistakes such as this, but it took a lot of guts for him to fess up.

It's not like pictures surface every single day of him coked out in a bathroom stall. It's being blown out of proportion.

Phelps didn't make a mistake. The law is outdated and I feel bad for him. A champion like him being made to feel guilty, How silly.
