I think this might be the best place for such a request:

Can anyone reccomend a good book on handfasting rituals? I see a few on the market, but with no reviews, I don't want to waste money on buying books which are rubbish!

Sorry, I'm not much help with a book... but...

Why waste your money on a book?

Honestly, when we were handfasted 2 1/2 years ago, I wrote the ceremony, took bits from resources here and there and never bought a book. The internet is full of free resources on handfasting.

If there is something specific you have in mind, I can see what I have saved from my handfasting, just let me know.

www.handfasting.info (http://www.handfasting.info) and www.kettlecreekweddings.com (http://www.kettlecreekweddings.com) . They both have resources that cover different areas.

JMO and YMMV

My suggestion would also have been to browse around online and see if you can find the help you need for free. Your library may also have books on weddings (which can be adapted to handfastings) that you can read for free.

This link might be helpful: the only book I've read from this list is Ed Fitch's "Magickal Rites from the Crystal Well" but the handfasting ritual in that book is very nice and Traditional.

There are also some links to online rites and info about handfasting there.

edited to add: here's a link to the handfasting ritual from the Magickal Rites book: http://books.google.com/books?id=skbLe5w9ZeEC&pg=PA131&lpg=PA131&dq=rites+from+the+crystal+well+-+handfasting&source=bl&ots=yjc48sCKe9&sig=lTR-3RH0J2q2zahY_MrNE4WwJy8&hl=en&ei=VU-QSYHYE4LqNIP3iaQL&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=2&ct=result#PPA134,M1

We used 'Handfasted and Heartjoined' by Lady Maeve Rhea. Gave us some ideas and brought up some things we hadn't thought of, from practical advice (budget/planning) to ritual ideas. She uses lots of examples of how other couples did things (what worked well and what didn't), so it was helpful in creating our own ceremony. Some of it was really basic (101), but overall it was a good resource. Also a nice appendix in the back about state laws, but it was written several years ago so if you use it, be sure to check your state for updates.

Thanks for the pointers chaps and chapettes.

As for the legality, I've no need to worry, its not legal in England. We're doing the legal marriage thing a year and a day later!
