Thesis/Research Paper Help

Okay, so for my women in religion and society class we have to write a research paper about a religion and something to do with women. Naturally, I'm inclined to do Pagan/Goddess worship as my religion but I need help on what I want to say about it. Its not due for a couple of weeks, but I was hoping for some brainstorming help :smile:. Maybe something about goddess symbols...I dunno.

What about the evolution of goddess based worship and its place in modern society? Or, something like that?

What about women's roles in religion in north america versus in countries in africa or asia?

Or you could do an analysis of women's roles in say, anglicanism (which allows female ordination to the priesthood) and Catholicism, which does not. The two religions are very similar to each other.

You've sort of got a large ball of wax in your initial statement. The role of women and that influence or intereaction with or within a religion. Granted that is my read on your statement but it is really a broad notion.

What slant are you hoping to explore?

Is it the role women or a single woman played as outlined in some mythical tale?

Is it the notion of power of woman in the mythical role as compared between social influence and religious influence?

Is it the changing roll of women in general as they as priestess are removed from the main role to be replaced by the male dominated religions?

Is it the take of cloistered women and their marriage to the church as nuns vice actual marriage for procreation?

Is it the precevied incorporation of female priestess in Ireland into the less structured Catholic church influence?

Sorry, not trying to change your idea, just asking some leading type questions to get an idea of where you are trying to go with this paper. It may sound lame but women in paganism as a broad paper is fine for grade school but I highly doubt that that broad of a scope would be good on the collegic level. Well at least that was my experience.

I would suggest picking a specific denomination or religion and examining the role played by women. Instead of saying "Paganism" try "Dianic Witchcraft" or "Gardnerian Wicca" or "Ár nDraíocht Féin: A Druid Fellowship." Pick whatever one you find most interesting or have the most information that can be useful.
