At my school we're doing a Holocaust production called "And Then They Came For Me" It's an amazing show. I'm a light techie, I'm taking part in a major role... in the light and sound booth pushing buttons and turning knobs, it's awesome!
Anyhoot, last week we had two real life Holocaust survivors come in and share their stories with us. It was so crazy. The things they taught us were horrid, but I was so intrigued and fascinated as to how the human spirit can endure pain and suffering like that. The man there had been in Auschwitz, Dachau AND Birkenau. And he survived. It was terrible for him. I couldn't believe anyone could actually endure that kind of thing.
Anywho, I guess that I just wanted to share that I had that experience with y'all. Wish you all could see the show.

SS--sounds great!
I used to be a professional theater tech. I LOVED IT!!! I found out this year that my 17 year old cousin is getting into it as well. I always wanted someone in the family to carry on the tradition. :)
I hope you enjoy your experience. I would give anything to be able to do it again. (I can't due to a car accident.) Let me live vicariously through you!!!!!!!! :D

RUN GET DOGMA...AND CLERKS AND CHASING AMY AND JAY & SILENT BOB AND MALLRATS...well, you dont' have to get Mallrats.
But yes....DOGMA is a GREAT GREAT film. It's my FAVORITE ViewAskew production to date. It's smart and funny and does make you think.
But back to the original point of this thread...SS that sounds amazing. When Wtchy was involved with the theater, especially during the summer, I would help her. We were "propmasters" together once for a production of "joseph & the amazing technicolor dreamcoat"
I saw a moive on Showtime once, it starred Kirsten Dunst. It was very well done. My boss lady (the woman who owns the company I work for) is a survivor, as was her husband. He lost his entire family (first wife and children) in the camps. She NEVER wears short sleeves, because of the tattoos on her arms given to her. She's a tough woman.

Yeah, Irving (the surviving man) showed us his tattoo on his arm. It's so odd to hear them tell us these stories of what happened to them. Especially him, the things he was forced to do... I'd share, but I dunno, some people might be sensitive to that sort of thing, and I understand. :) Still, they were so lively and fun loving and really had this appreciation for life that I just adored. They were really great.
This is just something extraordinarily neat to do because you know, I'm among the last generation that gets to talk to these people... after this, they'll be passed.
Anywho, if you ever get the chance to see anyone perform "And Then They Came For Me", DO IT. It's so awesome. It really is a beautiful piece... the show opens for us a week from Thursday...
Wish you all could see it...

There was a woman who owned the stationary store in the town I moved in after HS graduation who had 'the numbers' on her arm. I never said anything (obviously) but asked a friend who had known her for years about them and turns out she was an Auschwitz survivor. The next time I saw the woman, her numbers showed from under her (always) long sleeve and I just looked in her eyes. She gave me a look I will never forget--everything showed in her face and she just gave me a knowing nod. I wanted to hug her or sit and talk with her or something. Instead, I just said my "thank you" and everyday after that when I went in for the paper, she would smile at me differently. Like it was our secret or something. It was a very powerful experience for me--so much said without words.

MAN that was a bad show!!! And what a strange summer. I was in that show as well as doing props and there were times I felt schizo! (We had a GREAT time though eh, Ldy?!!!) :D
There was a show I did in college where I was: Asst. Stage Manager, undertudy, spotlight, props, costumes, makeup and set builder. I handled everything ok until this one show when the girl I was understudying didn't show up on time. Suddenly every line went out of my head, we couldn't find a costume to fit me (the chick was a size 1 and I at the time was about a 12/14!) and to top it all off, my father was in the audience that day. They literally had to take me for laps around campus to calm me down. It was just too much to take care of for one show. Right after I got it all together and was about to go onstage, the Bit%# showed up!!!!!!!
She um, got a bit drunk at the cast party the night before and didn't know where she was when she got up for the show the next day and therefore didn't know how to get to the theater!! When I heard that, all was definately forgiven. I was laughing too hard to be pissed off! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
