What kinds of hair products (shampoos, gels, hairsprays, etc,...) do you use?

It changes. Mostly whatever's cheap. I have no loyalty when it comes to stuff like that.

I'm with you.
The least expensive stuff.
No loyalty to hair products.
Mostly just use shampoo and conditioner....sometimes gel.

Head & Shoulders. **Smiles** Since my hair is usually only about ¼" long, shampooing and drying is a breeze.

I only use shampoo and conditioner and I choose it based on smell usually. I used to use Pantene but they changed the smell and I've never found one that I like as well. :(
Right now, I'm using Finesse.

I use Tresseme (it was on sale at Wal-Mart):p
it seems to work pretty well...I have tried to use the least amount of hairspray as possible because of the alcohol (drying) in it.

I've tried expensive brands and they weren't much better than the cheap stuff. Basically, with most of the expensive products, all you're paying for is the label or the name.;)

Believe it or not, Mane & Tail (used on horses) is very good for your hair.

Yep! I have some, or actually my daughters have some. I tried it on my hair but it didn't give me the extra conditioning that I needed. (with the conditioner) It works great on my kids hair though.:)

Currently, good ol' Suave Strawberry!
I tried using a castile type the other day and it almost fried my hair. I don't know if it just wasn't rinsed out all the way or what the deal was, but it came out like htis big matted mess and my hair is NEVER like that!
Next day, right back to my Suave. All better now. :D

Aveda Chamomile shampoo, John Frieda Sheer Blonde Conditioner and then generally something to straighten and control my thick, sort of wavy hair - Bed Head Control Freak or something.
I use Bed Head hair spray when I need it.
I also regularly rinse my naturally blonde hair in lemon juice and chamomile tea to keep it shiny.

I generally use Suave. I use to use St. Ives Silk and Keratin shampoo and conditioner, but they quit making it years ago...:wah:...I wish they still made it. But I still use much of their products though. Their collegen and elastin lotion is great for my awefully dry skin.

You have a beautiful head of hair!!!
There is one product that I use, it costs about 10 or $11.00 a tube, and I am sure it will work!
It's from Sebastian and it's called Potion 9.
A little goes a long way and it works great on my hair which is alot like yours.:)

Aveda when I can afford it.
Right now though, something organic without the alcohol and laurel sulfate (or whichever it is) in it. Clary Sage and Lemongrass...:mmm:...smells great!
And Aussie Instant Conditioner.
Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Hair Conditioner about once a week....need to get some more...that's good stuff!! (Az put me onto it. :D)
But then, I'm addicted to Burt's Bees products anyway! :p

I just switched. Sort of. I've always used Suave products, because you can get the same stuff...i.e. Pert, pantene, nexus, etc. in Suave form and still pay less. BUT...I picked up the Sheer Blonde shampoo. I REALLY REALLY like this stuff. My hair is brighter now. My hair is dark blonde almost brown. This stuff brightens it right up. I tried the Sheer Blonde natural highlighter stuff too. I'm liking it big time. It worked so well, even Eshallet NOTICED that my hair was lighter. :D

VroomBroom- your hair is great! Do you get probalems with it all knotting up? My hair is not quite as long, but thick, and wavy too. And it tangles really bad. I like Loreal CurlVive Detangling Shampoo and Conditioner or Tresemme for Dry and Damaged hair. Then some detangler spray too while it is wet. My hair gets dry since it is so long and color treated and I should really deep condition it more often , but who has the time? :)

I have horrible water where I live and have enough shampoos under my sink to open my own salon. I've found that Aussie Mega seems to work best with hard water. When I'm out of town or at Flar's I can make do with anything.
I'm also a bit disturbed by the way we're getting ripped off on some of these things. Has anyone tried those root lift products? I've found that using hairspray or spritz for the same intent does the same thing. I asked the girl who does my hair about it and she confirmed that they're pretty much the same thing.
I do like the Frizz-Ease Moisture Barrier hairspray best. Our area is humid and it does seem to keep my hair from getting too big and washes out easily even with the hard water.

I get the most vicious knots at the back of my head, under the hair, by the scalp!! I used to use Johnson No More Tears Detangler all the time on it........but with my lack of store choices up here and KMop stopped carrying it:( I have been looking for a new product for that prob.

I just use Suave shampoo and conditioner, right now it's Coconut scented, but I think I'll go back to vanilla. When I want my hair to be extra curly (when I curl it) I use a tiny bit of Suave gel. I don't use hairspray. I used to use this stuff called Restructurizer, I think it was a Paul Mitchell product.. but it made my hair smell rank after a couple weeks of using it and I didn't notice it doing anything to restructurize my hair. I dye my hair alot, so I need extra conditioning. And it's thick, so it's nice to use a leave-in conditioner so I can actually get a brush through it. Sometimes I think it would be best if I just shaved my head.

Citre' Shine has excellent products! Our goofy Wal-Mart doesn't always have them.
I picked up a bottle of Aveda deep conditioner at a surplus shop for $1.49. It works very well, but I don't know if I could buy a bottle at full price.

St. Ives strengthening shampoo and light conditioner. Or Halsa's strengthening formula if I can find it. I have very fine hair, so I need the body, and a light conditioner to keep stuff from getting oily.

*sighs wistfully* I used to LOVE Citre-Shine products, especially the shampoo and conditioner. Then one day they up and changed the product formula (yes I'm that nutty, I could tell :D) and it just wrecked my hair.
:wah2:
It was such a bummer.

They've changed the conditioner formula. . . it takes all the wave out of my hair now and makes it all limp. Bleh.

November 5th, 2002, 03:48 PM
They bumped up the alcohol content in it, is why Az. *makes face* Citre-Shine used to have very little alcohol in it...now it's first or second on the list.

Head and Shoulders, mostly. I don't think I've ever had a problem with dandruff ("Bingo!" :T), but it's what my dad always bought and used so therefore it was in the shower. And it's always made my hair nice and shiney so I keep using it.
I looooooooove the smell of CitraShine products, but it doesn't really do much for my hair, bad or good.
I change often when it comes to conditioners, although I've been using Herbal Essences lately which seems to work well.
I use cheap hair spray. :) I also use this shine-styling wax that my Mom bought and didn't want. I do this nifty flip thing with my hair now, and the wax really works with that style. Come to think of it, I usually try new hair products when my Mom gives me her cast-offs ;)

I use more products on my hair then a hair salon, lets see, I use Thermasilk shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, special FX pomade, Got 2 Be spiked up hair gel, thermasilk or finesse strong hold hair spray. My hair is long in front and short and spikey in back, so i have to use all this crap to keep the spikes nice, straight and stiff, I could be in a convertable going 70 and the back of my hair wouldn't more (believe me, I've tried it!!!) :)

I'm too lazy to read through the whole thread, but there is another product that I really like for both my hard water and getting residue from medications out of my hair. It's called Aloe-Rid and Nexxus makes it.
Another good product that worked very well for me when my hair was fried by a bad perm was called "IC." The manufacturer's name is Fantasia and you have to buy it from beauty supply stores, at least in my area. It's a leave-in conditioner that is mostly for African-American folks. Their hair is very dry. My hair was absolutely fried and this stuff actually healed it.
Flar has baby-fine hair and his medications and how he's feeling really affect it. Does anyone have recommendations for a light detangler that won't make his hair too oily?

Flaire, I've read that it has one of the highest levels of silicone of the lot, and a little silicone is great, but too much completely wrecks your hair.
I find the cheaper the better...I get through tonnes of conditioner :)

Raising the dead here, and I'll ask Flar to move it to Health and Beauty.
I went to the store the other night, very short of money, and needed some mousse. I finally settled on White Rain Naturals Nourishing Mousse with "enriching sunflower" for 94 cents.
I am impressed! Due to recent surgery and heavy meds, my hair is fried and although I've been off everything for a few weeks now, my hair's having a hard time getting back to normal. This stuff seems to have conditioners in it, because my hair's much softer when I use it, and considerably shinier.
It does help with manageability, but even though this is a fine/limp hair formula, it doesn't give much oomph volume-wise. However, I haven't tried using it when my hair is half-dry, since most products work better for me that way.
Gotta laugh at those root-boosters. An extra product you don't need....spraying any hairspray or applying any mousse or gel to your roots will give you the same results. In fact, I was looking at Aussie's new one which claims its pump is easy to use.....seems to me a mousse nozzle would work much better.

Well, I used to use Pantene's Anti-Dandruff Shampoo and Conditioner in one... but, I needed a change, and I had been using Pantene for so long... I changed to John Freida's Brilliant Brunette Amber to Maple - the volumizing one... and the reflective conditioner. I think it works great and my natural highlights of golds and reds shine through really good. Others have noticed as well and commented on how my hair looks. For styling... I used to use Bed Head's After Party - in the pink tube. It was awesome stuff... but... a bit pricey... So, I switched to the full John Freida line and use the hair syrum and either the curling mouse to try to bring out my natural waves, or the shiney gloss stuff, which is I believe the equivelent to Bed Head's After Party. The shiney gloss stuff is also part of the brilliant brunette series. I also have the gel of the brilliant brunette series that I'll use on occasion. For hairspray... Rave... always has been... always will be! lol Oh... I used to use a spray gel by Suave that smelled awesome, and did an awesome job with curls, when I had them... lol But they stopped making that scent... It's been so long I can't even remember what it was... lol
