Personally, I think the "Shopkeeper" mentioned in the article, was either misquoted, or made a major flub when she said she thinks Teens come to Wicca out of Rebellion. Certainly, that's the case sometimes, but ...it shouldn't be a generalization.

I see one thing wrong with the article. Wiccans/Witches/Pagans don't practice the "Golden Rule". That's the Christian concept of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Boy, that leaves it wide open for the Sado-Masochists out there! "Hey, I like pain and I like to be beat so I'll cause pain to get it back!!!" It's not the Golden Rule, it's the Rede.....

"Wicca is exciting, like buying off the black market..."
 Spoken by someone who's purchased things off the black market, I'm sure....
Not too bad an article, but just enough misinformation and common assumptions to prove that the author didn't really do serious research into the subject.

agreed, author seemed to "skim over" facts, and to try to "Please the Masses" with terms that they would already be familiar with (taking the easy way out), instead of using Pagan Terms, and then carefully clarifiying, and defining the terms.

I agree. The issue has come up with several of my client children who enjoyed shocking people. One boy told me that he would be allowed to practice Wicca in the group home that he was placed in if I would give my permission. I refused and explained to him that I felt he did not understand the religion enough to actually practice it but that I would be supportive if he wanted to study it.
Ah, me.......this question has come up for me recently in seeing all of the little spell books in the bookstores and even the article in Seventeen magazine. While I am glad that folks are making an effort towards education and reducing negative stereotyping, I do feel that they could be doing a better job. Due to their developmental stage, it is normal for teens to be attracted to something that appears to be different and glamourous, but the spiritual aspects of Wicca are being missed. I found this site in the process of looking for something else and I really like it:

I'm also off to look for the first installment of the Little Witch stories on Witchvox.com...........it is an excellent little short story that addresses this specific issue.

Apparently their link is broken or the essays are gone :( I e-mailed them to report the problem. I did notice that they do have quite a few articles on Wicca and Teens.

Fritz replied and said that they removed the essays from their site by mutual agreement because the author has returned to his faith of origin. He said that they remain good friends.
But I did find it on another site:

It is a powerful essay for both teenagers and beginners.

Here is some sort of letter to teenage witches I came across....there is a little "mild" profanity in it....
I am not sure who the second party is though....
