I have six decks. All of which have pretty much the same archetypal meanings. So what is it about a deck that makes you have or not have, a rapport with the cards. When you say you don't feel the deck or it doesn't "speak" to you, what does that mean.

When someone refers to a deck 'speaking' to them, essentially they are saying that when they use a particular deck that there are no surprises that confuse or confound them, that they can understand the message of the cards as easily as if there were an actual voice (and maybe there is!) telling them what they need to know. 8O
A lot of it is subjective; if you dislike the artwork you will never be confortable with a deck. Maybe the artist took too many liberties with traditional things, or maybe a card or two jumps out at you for being 'wrong'. :bug: Perhaps a deck someone loves just downright turns you off - that deck will never speak to you like an old friend with a knack for telling you what you need to know. :nonono:
For example, the MotherPeace Tarot is so blatantly anti-male for me that I could never use it. Everything has breasts, including the Heirophant! :smash: However, I use the Robin Wood deck almost exclusively; is it because I have met and spoken to Robin Wood two or three times, or is it because the pagan in me understands why she designed her cards the way she did. there is nothing in the deck that makes me uncomfortable, nor will I embarass a reader while using it , something the Decameron tarot might certainly do.:blushake:

This is an interesting subject and I have wondered the same thing. I kinda figured the answer to be what Tarotbear said. I'm a beginner but love reading. (Although finding the time to study and read is a battle!)
Right now I only have one deck (Rider-Waite) and was amazed at how the readings come together. I've only done one reading that I wasn't pleased with. (Not because of the reselts because I have done some that weren't the most positive.) I thought it might have been because it was my first reading with my querent present. After asking a couple questions come to find out that the reason I wan't pleased was more than likely because I didn't a specfic question - it was just a general reading. (Thanks Tarotbear!;))
A friend of mine is sending me the Witch's Tarot and I'm so looking forward to receiving it. Then I can actually see what this "connecting" is all about. Also I finally found a place to purchase the Tarot of the Southwest (may not be the actual name). I want these cards to read for my in-laws as they are Native American. I think I can connect with those easily.
Have been thinking of designing my own deck. Has anyone tried that site that lets you design your own? It's in a thread somewhere;)
Am I rambling?:p
