Okay even I think this is going a bit too far. Anyways, I couldn't find anything better on CNN (what I've been hearing about this on) but I found an article from the LA Times.
The Orange County Register reported that Dean Grose, the Los Alamitos mayor, sent an email from his personal account that shows a picture of the White House. On its lawn are rows of watermelons, and the caption reads, ``No Easter egg hunt this year.``

this is totally not racist it obviously has to do with some obscure current event.

I find this one more offensive than the chimp one to be honest, but thats just me. This one seems to me to really have some racist undertones which I didn't feel from the other one.

I hadn't heard about it until I read about that, then again I don't watch cable news so I dunno.

I heard about it but that is only because I went to CNN and came across it. If I hadn't done that I wouldn't have noticed more than likely.

(Where's the fried chicken, soul food, and the "drive by's"?
They could have really done it up to meet all the stereotypes if they wanted to be really offensive.)
=> *I thought it was cute at first, but I see your point...he is the President after all, but if he were not, and it was reversed and this was picking on a white stereotype, would anyone care?

Lol it would be too overdone then.

Probably not. I guess that some-what relates to the content of this (http://mysticwicks.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=210605) thread. I suppose it mainly has to do with all of the past hatred/racism towards african americans. Though you are right, if it were a white president, and they were pressing upon white stereotypes..I highly doubt many people would take offense.
Though I think it IS more of a touchy subject, basically because we've had 43 white presidents and 1 black one. I think having that many white presidents automatically gives us the right to make fun of them :p. If it were the other way around..making fun of the new white guy would be equally as offensive to the public.

Then again, Obama could really have the last laugh and claim that someone leaked his latest plan to supplement the economy through the return of Victory gardens and he chose watermelons because he has a twisted sense of humor about himself.:hehehe:

I would really play it up if I were Obama, have a block party BBQ at the whitehouse, plenty of soul food and all the 40's anyone could want.

Obama doesn't really seem like the type to be affected by this sort of thing. I wouldn't be surprised if he did laugh it up..atleast behind closed doors :p

Has any one else noticed that this thread has been getting google bombed?
Seeing the title of this thread as the second entry of a google search reflects on this site in a way that someone finds very amusing

Spoken like someone who truly has no idea what it's like to be a black American.
Yes, this picture is offensive but considering how most of America likes to think we're all "post racial" I'm not surprised by most of our public blowing it off.

Did I say that? I'm saying our experiences are different, from Caucasians, from Asians, from Hispanics etc. Kindly take your knee jerk reaction elsewhere.

Please do not speak for "most of America".
Kindly do not accuse when I was only asking a question because of what you had written not knee jerking.
As well, I have personally been the victim of racism, what makes you think because you are a different color your experiences are any different from mine?
I know quite a few people who have been victims of racism from multiple races and from what I have seen, it sucks for everyone equally regardless of race.

You scored pretty high on Derailing for Dummies bingo. I'd give you a pat on the back but what you have might rub off.
Thanks for playing, but you aren't worth the effort.
