As a study method I draw one card every morning and study that card. I try to see how that one card can relate to my life during the day. When I draw a card I've already studied I write it down, reflect on it and keep drawing till I get a new one.

Before I do the drawing I usually spend some time in front of my altar praying and meditating.

Once I was particually concened with my sis-in-law. I had done a reading for her the night before and in the Celtic Cross layout the swords were straight up and down, and they were cards that I'd already studied. I prayed for her that morning before my drawing. In the drawing I pulled those cards again. I called her and we talked about what was going on. It really struck me.

Last night I found out that Hubby and I may be taking a trip to New Orleans in Nov. We've never gotten to take a "real trip" since we've been together and we've been married 16 years. We were supposed to go to TX. last weekend. I never felt like that was gonna happen....and it didn't.:(

For my drawing this morning I drew the Six of Swords - a card I've already studied. My next card was The Lovers. I was really looking forward to going to New Orleans....now I'm really excited about the trip!

I love to read news when people are happy. :) You have a good study method, Witchy Cowgirl. I used to draw a card day and write in a journal about it. I found writing in a journal about the drawing to be beneficial to my understanding of myself.

You must realize that I deal with tarot in some way, shape, or form every single day.

The card a day is very good for neophytes and beginners because it gives them an opportunity to 'get into' the card. If they keep a journal (have been doing this for years) of what card came up and use a wall calendar, they can see if maybe certain cards arrive in cycles. In the beginning they may find the randomness a little annoying, but that is the fun of it. In your journal always record ANYTHING you think is pertainent- the weather, how you felt, what phase the moon is in - ANYTHING that you feel made a contribution to the reading.

That's fine for learning the cards; how about 'later'?

I get a one-card reading every day. It is really half-tarot and half-astrological. I record this card and what explanations I get every single day. I do this in the morning so that I have time to let it digest; if I don't have tinme to record everything that day, I try to memorize some of it and write it down as soon thereafter as I can. Sometimes I cannot see the relevance of the card until I get home that night and look at exactly was written.

I find a one-card reading is sometimes better than doing an entire layout, even a 3-card one. The problem with layouts and spreads is that they sometimes have too much information and that tends to cloud things. You don't need a 10-card Celtic cross reading every day!

A couple of other thoughts: You can get an acrylic picture holder/frame to put your daily card in - that way you can leave it up on your altar to look at as you pass throughout the day. You can also get one of those metal stands that holds place cards from a restaurant supply house (or swipe one next wedding you go to!)

Tarot Bear, I liked your idea about putting the card in a picture frame, so you can look at it throughout the day. Well, I guess that is ok for people who draw a card at the beginning of the day.

I really didn't understand your response entirely. If you read my post, I wrote in the past tense, not the present tense. Thus, you can clearly see that I don't draw a card a day or write about it in a journal any longer. When I used to do it, I admit it that i partially did it in order to understand the cards better; However, I primarily did it in order to understand myself better. Some people just write journals in order to record everyday life experiences. My journal was like those of other people except I wrote about how the tarot card related to my feelings and experiences. I would recommend the method to other folks who are trying to get to know themselves.

Because I think that the method is good way for oneself to get to know his or her psyche, I don't understand why you write, "that's fine for learning the cards; how about later?" Perhaps some people use tarot to examine their own lives.

Dear Mnemosyne,

The sentence ' that's fine for now, but how about 'later' is not directed at you or anyone in particular. Because my post follows yours does not inply I am answering or judging what you wrote. Witchy cowgirl sent me a PM and asked me to contribute to her thread.

My purpose for stating that is to explain that the one card a day method is not merely a learning exercise, although it is an excellent way for beginners to start. I have been reading Tarot for years and still do one card a day; you do not. That does not make the practice invalid for you or valid for me. I will continue my card a day practice for the rest of my natural life.

I believe what witchy cowgirl meant in starting this thread was to find out if others use the same method, and see what variations on it people have developed. Similarly, if you draw your card a day before you retire, putting it in a frame would make no sense, but then again, the suggestion was made as a contribution to the entire forum and not to you in particular.

 Thanks for the clarification, Tarot Bear. You offer good tips for those who are interested in learning more about the cards.
