Recently I was fairly appalled by a friend of my boyfriend's that was insisting that the Goddess Bast of Egyptian origin did not exist. After a bit of a debate about it he finally 'fessed up that the reason She does not exist is because She was not in some "all powerful" computer game that he plays that supposedly had all the research done and is sooooo accurate. I was stunned into silence for about 3 seconds before responding, and quite nicely putting him into his place about the accuracy of computer games.
Now, this is the first time anyone had ever used that argument on me before...other gods/esses don't exist because of the "ONE TRUE GOD", yes....heard that a lot. This was just amazing to me because he was serious, and it makes me giggle. Just thought I'd share and see if anyone else has had the same "debate".

WE have friends who play Vampire the Masquerade and Werewolf the Apocolyps. They have gone way to far and are living in what I call gamers land. It is the zone that one enters when they eat sleep and live a game. I know of one person who lost thier job because they couldn't stop talking game. Scary people!

Yes Yvonne, I know people that not only play Masquerade and such games but are ALSO in the SCA. They have banded together and bought a home together and all they do is game...game game game game. I am not downing gaming or gamers...but reality must remain...the wonderful basic Wicca 101 ability to *ground*! :)

Now, I wonder if I'm going to get scolded for this but...

I am a gamer. I *only* game to release stress and I *don't* think any of it is real. I've gotten into the argument before. The gamer arguing with me kinda shut up when I started giving them a huge list of reading material. It's great to know the town librarian. :D They help in making sure that the gamers learn the reality of it all too.

I got the ladies at the library involved by "suggesting" different books. Now, alot of the gamers I know are either asking if they should incorporate actual facts into their games or not. <chuckles> Ah the joys of expanding minds... Now let's see if the big bang theory and the inflationary universe theory is correct... at least when it comes to grey matter.8O

Now, why would you get scolded for that? Just shows you have your feet planted firmly in reality, here with the rest of us. :D *searches for dice* 8O

Nah, gaming can be fun as long as it does not become your life. I know people who are so far into it that they actually think they have "powers"

Gaming, in part, ruined my first marriage ... But let's not go there, shall we?

I'd rather discuss the Gods and Goddesses ~~ the REAL ones. 8O

rotflmao!!! ooh, the laughing hurts. *cry* ouch. lol That's a great agruement and should be taken quite seriously... *bursts out laughing again* He was really serious?! :D That's great. I'm a gamer. Most of my friends are gamers. But just because I like to play 2'11" thiefs or werewolves with claws, doesn't mean that I go around thinking I can behind trashcans or claw apart walls or summon creatures or even use a sword. I admitt, that I would like to be able to do some of that :D, but I'm not going to try. The only thing that I can summon is my cat and that's if he's in the mood to respond to his name. ;) I also don't care what gods and goddesses are reprensted in these games becasue they are meant for fun, not reality. lol I have to tell my friends about this. :D

As for real Gods and Goddesses, I have a question.

What exactly is the Goddess to those here on MW? My religion prohibits the worship of another God or Goddess before the God of the Holy Bible. I have no problem with this. I am perfectly happy with the Holy Trinity. Though I do not worship her, I show Earth much respect and I like to think that I am connected with her. For me, she is God's ultimate temple and His most beautiful creation. I think of her as the Mother that bears me into the world, the Mother that nourishes me, and the Mother's arms that I will return to in death. I think of the virgin Mary as just one face of that. Since I do not have a Goddess that I worship I was just curious as to what it is that all of you call the Goddess.
