I've been reading "True Magick" by Amber K. (Very good guide for people interested in magick, and cheap too!)She states near the end of the book that sometimes entities may manifest at the edge of the circle to watch what's going on. She also sez its possible to become possessed by said entities if you are not careful due to substance abuse or trauma.

Has anyone ever encountered any type of manifestation while working magick? Have any of you ever seen anything like this?

is very important for just this reason. The energy that any circle puts off will attract entities of all kinds, including "low-level astral yuckies." Therefore maintaining a strong sphere or circle is crucial. I actually have more experience with wild animals coming to watch or even entering the circle, but no harm ever came of it.

wild animals... cool.... I'm afraid something like that would really cause my concentration to falter. I'm afraid I'd lose the circle.

Hmmm, guess I need to read that book.
I have heard the circle defined in different ways, some say it is too keep out negative, others say it is to control the environment to hone the power (my view).
I am assuming that she is warning against drugs etc. during magical workings, and I agree 100%. It would be irresponsible to say the least, not to mention dangerous.

One year, a long time ago, Beltaine fell on a new moon. My roommate & I were studying Wicca this particular year.

Beltaine itself came & went, no real big deal. But then the moon came full, and Jane & I were bubbling & giddy with energy, and realized we needed to go Cast a Circle, hold a small ritual.

Her boyfriend -- who found it difficult to take anything "spiritual" or "mystical" seriously -- was over, so we dragged him with us. Grabbing some cinnamon buns (there were jokes about the "sacred cinnamon buns" for years) and some incense, we headed to the park.

We hadn't done this kind of thing with Josh before, and were a little self-conscious. As we cast the Circle, I walked its perimiter with the incense, walking on this side of one clump of grass, that side of the other. For some reason, we were all paying close attention to exactly where I walked. (Probably because we were trying to get the idea of the boundary across to Josh.)

In the course of the ritual, a cat approached. Smokey grey like moonlight. It seemed to watch us with some interest. This delighted Jane & I, so we spoke to it, and told the cat it was OK to join us if it wanted.

The cat approached us. But when it got to the edge of the Circle, it stopped and changed directions, walking the edge exactly as I had, on this side of the first clump of grass, that side of the other.

Jane & I were a little dissappointed that it didn't cross and come see us, but we moved on.

Josh had his mind blown. He hadn't really believed any of this was real. (If it couldn't be scientifically measured, he had a hard time believing in it.) To this day, though, he remembers the cat walking the Circle, and so accepts his wife's beliefs, even if he doesn't share or understand them.

hiya :)

Actually we had something like that happen on the last Full Moon. We (my sister and I) did a new ritual that I had found, and at the end it says when it's time to do meditation or divination or whatnot. We sat down to do the divination, and I very quickly looked off to my right and I saw a boy walking around the outside. What tipped me off that it wasn't an actual physical person was that all I could see was his head/face and then on 2nd glance, only his face. Then he was gone. Scared me so bad. lol :) But that has happened with us often. Usually they come in the form of rays of light, though. Not full fledged apparitions.
