Across the nation on halloween thousand dress up as witches and wizards for halloween.

At my little school its no differrant however just as these christians are dressing up as pagan figures the local pagan comunity drressed mostly as themselve or

Biblical figures!! Thats right we had angels and saints, the holy virgin, jesus, and true to my common nick name I went as MOSES whuu it was fun.

A girlfriend of mine, who is Jewish, went as Jesus a couple of years ago.

This year, all I saw was a couple of friends of mine who are literally a couple go as an angel and a demon.

Last night I saw a pregnant nun with a sign on her back saying "the devil made me do it"

I thought that was pretty funny and clever! And warm too, as opposed to my winter fairy ensemble.

There were TONS of angels at the Hallowe'en party I went to last night. This is a college campus, however, so I think all the girls thought they'd be "cute." ;) I always see a few nuns walking around, no matter where I am. But a bunch of people were devils, witches, ghosts, fairies...hell, someone was even Fred Durst! Talk about scary.

My experience yesterday was very interesting. I have a part time job hostessing in a restaurant, which the manager has had decorated for Halloween for the past few weeks. I love it, the sign above the register says "Potions for Sale".......I make magickal oils........little did they know

Anyway, I wore my uniform yesterday but dressed as a witch otherwise, just a long black wig, conical hat and not very scary makeup - black lipstick (a gift from my sweetie) and glitter. I live in a small town that is predominantly Christian. About half of the customers coming in gave me the dirtiest looks and they were very obvious about it. One, in particular, is a regular who is always going on about how "people need to get right with the Lord," who consistently marches in ahead of people who are waiting for tables, ignoring me and the Please Wait To Be Seated Sign, runs his waitress ragged and is a lousy tipper. He'd never been rude with me before but he was rude to me yesterday when I asked him to sit in an area that followed the rotation. I was so tempted to ask him what he thought the Lord would think about his behavior.

Interestingly, the senior citizens smiled and said that I looked cute, etc., an indication of how times have changed since I was a kid, when we looked forward to simply dressing up and getting goodies with no references to religious meanings.

I spoke with another customer for awhile who is also in his sixties about why I always dress as a witch for at least one event. I do this in rememberance of the burning times and all of the innocents who were killed, when the name of God was used to justify hate and greed. He actually had good knowledge of this and it amazes me how many people are unaware of this part of history.

I had a different costume for the ritual I was attending. I was going as Morgaine, Priestess of Avalon, complete with a crescent moon on my third eye and a rather large pentacle necklace. The first kids who came to the door were young teenagers and weren't in costume, which is typical for some of the ones around here. I was dressed in my costume and grabbed the candy.....they stopped me and said that they were inviting people to church. I swallowed my urge to make a smart comment about them doing this on my Sabbat but instead I smiled, took their flyer and forced candy on them! It was hilarious, they were looking at me like "This crazy lady is not getting it."

If they'd been adults, my reaction might have been different. This Samhain has had very special meaning for me in regard to my path.

Hehe... Christians are funny...

I met one person dressed as a Witch at a party a few days before Halloween. She wasn't the generic kinda witch with green skin, warts, etc... But rather, she was dressed up just a little skimpy in a black outfit with bright, shiny orange. She even wore black and orange striped stockings. Talk about Halloweenish

There were so many different things this year, it's hard to say what I saw the most. However, at school there were SOOOO many faeries! ...made me feel less unique with my costume, but it didn't matter, I didn't wear the costume to school...
