Do you think its right to do a spell that benefits yourself?
Or do you think its better do a spell that benefits others?

Why does it have to be one or the other?

It doesn't. You can believe in one just as much as the other, or more, or less.

Depends on the spell. And its very hard to tell if a spell will truely benefit someone. For example if someone is an alcoholic and gets drunk one night and breaks their arm falling off their porch is it okay to do a spell to help them heal quicker? I'd say no. It was a lesson they needed to learn. If you heal their arm they may get hurt worse later on as a result of their alcoholism.

Just think of it this way, if you're a Wiccan, then yes, it supposedly goes against the religion to cast a spell to benefit yourself, as this is often at the expense of others. You cast a money spell, and the money IS going to come from someone. However, if you're not a Wiccan, it's perfectly alright, why was magic first discovered\invented, if not to help oneself in matters of love, wealth and knowledge?

Ooooo okies thank yas.. See, I'm Wicca and wasn't sure if it was okies to do a benefiting spell for myself.

But a self healing spell, or something of that sort is perfectly alright, don't neglect yourself.

**Shrugs** I disagree. Most time, doing work to benefit yourself is a good goal for spellwork. It may or may not come at the expense of someone else - but that's not necessarily a bad thing, either. Consider - is it wrong to shoot someone who has a gun pointed at you or someone you love?

When I considered myself Wiccan I never thought it was against the nature of the religion to cast a spell to benefit myself. There are certainly parameters (which are largely up to the individual) such as: dont take what belongs to someone else, make sure you really deserve what you're trying to get and that its not just an easy way out, think deeply about the consequences of it....etc.

So, then would it be safe to say I can do spells that would benefit myself, only not go overboard with it?

I totally disagree that doing a spell for yourself is against the Wiccan religion. Just because you're want a bit of extra cash doesn't mean it's going to come from the rich guy down the road or a mistake by a cashier at Walmart.

It is also my opinion that casting spells for others, is in a way casting it for yourself. You're reaping benefits: good karma, feeling good and a friend (or someone) will be helped. In a way, casting a spell for someone else does not have to be reached by genuine intent, but also by being selfish and thinking of one's self.
