I don't know how legit this is but I recieved it in my email and it makes sense. I thought I would post it here and let peole make thier own choice on it.
We have to do something or we will be stranded in our homes.
THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT BY AN ECONOMIST WITHIN THE FUEL INDUSTRY. ANOTHER
ECONOMICS PROFESSOR AT CAL REITERATED THE SAME LAST WEEK. I THINK IT IS
WORTH TRYING.
I got this from a reliable source & the website listed is legit. We heard
today from a man who is very savvy about the economy, namely, Clark Howard,
and he says that the gas prices are going to start going up again and will
be high this summer-$2.00 and up. We need to do whatever we can, and do it
NOW!!!!
This makes more sense than the don't buy gas on a certain day routine that
was going around last year re: Gasoline Prices. Whoever started this has a
good point. By now, you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about$1.49
is cheap. Me too, as it is now $1.58 for regular unleaded!
Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think
that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at less than $1.50, we need to try
an aggressive response. With the price of gasoline going up more each day,
we consumers need to take ACTION! The only way we are going to see the
price of gas come down is if we don't buy it. But, (as the gas companies
know full well, and are counting on), that's not really a practical option
since we all have come to rely on our cars. But we CAN NOT have an impact on
gas prices if we all act together.
Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, don't purchase gasoline from the
two biggest companies (which now are one), namely EXXON and MOBIL. You see,
if they are not selling, they should be inclined, (i.e.., "forced"), to
reduce their prices. And, because of their size, and hence market share, if
they reduce their prices the other companies will too. (They would HAVE no
choice!). Isn't that a "juicy" prospect? But to have an impact, we need to
reach literally millions of users. But it's do-able!
I am sending this note to 42 people. If each of you send it to at least 10
more ...and those 10 send it to at least 10 more and so on, by the time the
message reaches the sixth iteration, we will have reached over one million
consumers. Acting together we can make a difference. If thismakes sense to
you, please pass this message on, or one you compose, to at least 10 more
E-mail addresses. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO BELOW
$1.28 - $1.29 AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK!
If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention!

Mairwen? Um this one suggests not buying from the major suppliers. It suggests that you forward it to other consumers in the hopes that enough people will boycott so that they have to lower thier prices to survive. I suppose you could email a congressman but I tend to agree in that it wouldn't work unless you were a friend and had his private email address.

Mobil in upstate NY starts at 1.83 a gallon for regular unleaded, the most expensive of all the stations around here. So I'm already boycotting it. $1.69 is the norm here...UGH...I feel bad for CA and MI, they are even worse!!!

Since the Imperial gallon is bigger that the U.S. gallon, the
price of gas in the Vancouver area works out to $3.58 a
gallon.
I guess it varies across the province and across Canada.

Since we are on the topic of gas, how about heating fuel.
I'm in Toronto, Canada. Over Jan, Feb. and March our heating bill was tripple over the same period last year, and that was when the weather was warming up. Don't know what we're going to do next winter. Hydro is also increasing to at least double. Looks like a lot of people who own homes on a fixed budget are just going to walk away because they can't affort to heat their homes or pay the light bill. Us we'll be putting a lot of sweaters on in winter and sitting with hand fans in summer if we can't afford to run the air conditioner.

We pay A$1.06 per litre for unleaded at the moment. I think that's US$2.20 per 1/4 gallon?
How many litres are there in a gallon?
And the price seems to go up drastically on the first and last days of school holidays, and on public service pay day (the night before)!!

Here in Australia, there is massive price fluctuations (ie. between high 80 and low 90 cents/litre to over $1/litre) for petrol. It is usually cheaper during the middle of the week and rises on thursday night for the weekend or for public holidays. But the oil companies say there is NO PRICE RIGGING between the major oil companies . Apparently it is all a coincidence that they are all similar in price and that they all raise their prices for weekend & holidays.
Although this not really a problem for me, I use public transport (good for the environment, very green :sunny: ). I can understand the anger  of those who need to use their cars (ie. for work or 'cos live in the country (not much public transport). Also we are beginning winter down here so i can imagine the effect on our heating bills   .

He's got to have gas. We won't move -- my parents bought this land in 1953 and we've lived here for 20 years. We refinanced our mortgage a few years ago at a really good rate that we wouldn't be able to get now even if we wanted to move, which we don't. So, we're cutting everywhere we can. I don't want to think what is going to happen to grocery prices if/when diesel fuel goes any higher and the trucking companies have to raise their rates to stay in business.

This sounds like an old one I had seen, I would love it if gas prices were $1.50, they haven't been that in California for over a year now. Right now they are close to 3.oo per gal. Those companies you mentioned, don't they have other affiliates with them too, like exxon and chevron would be good to find out if they work under other names and then avoid all. Right now I go to Costco, it is 5 cents less than anywhere else. but still high all in all. I have no idea where they get their gas from.

Yeah, I think thats around (possibley a little bit less?) than we pay here in England, but we pay $10 u.s. for a return bus ticket, so everyone still drives to work - there's just no alternative. Which is a pain in the ass, because thats $3000 I spend per year on gas, before road-tax and insurance (say, another $1000). Its just rediculous.
Public transport here is sh*te; I know dozens of people (myself amongst them) who have said they'd never have learnt to drive if it was better (i.e. vaguely affordable, and good routes) but the government doesn't care because they make so much in tax!

Excuse me smiling- but here, where I live, gas costs $7 a gallon..... and it shows on the level of pollution compared to the US.
... but I'm guessing you have a decent public transport system, yes?

Define decent? Connections are there yes, but it is expensive as h*ll. A two hour ride on the train to go see my parents, cost $45 ONE way, $75 for a return. The minimum price for city buses is about $3.

I'm not too familiar with the prices in the rest of Europe- only know that travelling UK this summer I found it extremely expensive.

It's $2.49 here...I heard somewhere, it'll be at least $3 by end of summer..ugh. :bug:
It is already 3 dollars where I live, it costs me about 50 dollars to fill up my tank in my Dodge Ram.

Paid $2.69 last night (plus the $.35 fee for using my ATM (rolls eyes)), so it cost me just over $40 to fill up, and I still had a little over an 1/8 of a tank left...
Our next car WILL BE a hybrid.

The word "gas" is a curse word in my vocabulary lately. It is unfreakingreal how expensive it is. I can remember bitching because it was $1.70/gallon. What I wouldn't give for that now....

http://www.biodiesel.com/why_biodiesel.htm (http://www.biodiesel.com/why_biodiesel.htm)Diesel fuel made from vegetable oil will work in any diesel engine without modifications. If more people demand biodiesel (sometimes called "green diesel" or "soy biodiesel") it will be more widely available. It is happening in this area because Purdue University is pushing it hard to farmers. The governor has gotten on the bandwagon because soybeans are a major Indiana crop. And yes, I'm looking for a diesel vehicle to back up our Taurus sedan.....
