I always thought prayer was easy, but now that I'm actually doing it, I've learned just how wrong I was. Especially since I'm not asking for something. I just want to worship my gods.I can't really write out my own prayers; I don't have the mind for it. Same thing with poetry. When I try just "speaking from he heart", it feels awkward and floundering. Imagine the newest cashier at a Walmart trying to make a presentation to Donald Trump and you'll get an idea how I feel. Although I'm sure the gods are much more...caring and compassionate than The Donald, lol. So, any thoughts?

Hey MoonWolfSorceress, try taking a look at the thread, "Classic Chants". It is in the same Magic and Rituals forum. You could use a few of the chants there and change some of the wording to suit your way of worshipping your gods. I was having the same problem you are having, and I took a look there, and it really helped.
BTW, I love your idea of putting up wards around your room. I think that will really help protect you.
Hope this helps! :)

Well, I had a look, and a few things did catch my attention; now I need to figure out how to incorporate them. I'm not Wiccan or a Goddess-only worshipper, so a lot of things just didn't work for me.
Now, to work out this ward business... Search Function, here I come!

if you are uncomfortable maybe you shouldnt try to do it
just a thought ..at least until it feels natural
as for me many of my "prayers" are silent I say them inside to myself
I am a quiet worshipper..chants annoy me..I have never really felt comfortable doing them
I also "talk" more then pray as if The Goddess was right next to me like a friend or standing in my circle with me

Excellent Advice here. I talk to the spirits like they are right here with me too.
You do not have to say something that sounds like a poem or anything fancy. Just relax and be yourself and let your own words begin to flow. Imagine the Deity you are speaking to as a friend or a companion. You do not have to impress those who are close to you. You can be yourself around them more than a stranger. Friends and companions and relatives usually know all about us and there is not much to hide. That is the way we should approach Deities.
Just try talking to one as you would talk to a friend. You can even start off by saying something like, " You have been on my mind a lot lately." or " It is good to feel your presence." or "Thanks for all the help you have given me."
Just simple things. Use the KISS method and do not try to make it harder than it really is. I am not Wiccan, I talk to the Universe, Ghede, Loas, Nature Spirits, the Stars, etc. I do use chants and drums and cymbals, dance but I talk to them more than anything else that I do. My drumming, dancing, chanting is used more as a worship service or to call one down in a ceremony or if I have promised to do this for one.

that works best for me too, it's more comfortable

That's how I've been doing it, too. After reading the posts here and thinking about it a little more, I'm starting to think the problem is just inexperience. Well, I guess there's only one way to solve that... :bigredgri

I just wanted to recommend the book, "A Book of Pagan Prayer," by Ceisiwr Serith. I think that it would be helpful.
